I burned about 2 ton of Somerset last year. They burned hotter than AMF American Wood Fiber, Pennington and Hammer. I had to reduce the air and feed rate on my Englander 25 PDVC on the 1 and 2 settings. I actually exchanged one ton of AMF for Somerset last year. Couldn't get Somerset this year so I bought Lignetics and AMF American Wood Fiber. This years AMF's seem to burn better, more heat, they have shavings in them but not much ash.

Last years somerset burned significantly hotter than any other brand I have burned. They also had virtually no fines or dust in the bag. Very little ash as well. Couldn't get my hands on any this year.

Newbie here to burning with pellet stove-got a used Harman Advance for $1700 and 5 tons of Somerset for $800 this past summer. I've burned 25 bags this season, burning 24/7 and ABSOLUTELY LOVE Somerset pellets! I highly recommend them! They burn hot, little ash, very little fines in bags. I don't know how available they are now...........

If I bought 5 tons @$160 a ton I'd love them also.

I'm burning them here too. They are great- very few fines and very little ash. They also do burn just about as hot as my softwood ones too. I am going to prebuy more of these next year..

No problems with them, They are all that was available to me here. I had 4 sources, and all had Somerset. Going to pick up more soon, they are 205.00/ton at my dealer. There is only about a cup or less of dust in the bottom of the bag. I pour them in and try to leave the dust in the bag.

Pellets in central Mass still seem to be hovering around $350/ton delivered.
At a difference of $145/ton, I would think it would be worth our while to rent a UHaul and drive to Kentucky?
I may have to talk to one of my friends that drives for United Van lines...

If he could haul 20 tons on his way BACK to Mass...might be a good deal all around

Our pellets around here go for a average of $215 a ton and if you do an early buy the Sommersets go for about $180 a skid. I think you guys in the NE are in general getting ripped off and should revolt!!

Where are you buying your Sommersets? All I can find around here are Marth Corp products?

somerset is a hardwood floor manufacturer in KY....they make wood pellets from the byproducts....they manufacture pellets for TSC....they are sold there under the name (hardwood heat)...we have 4 tons and they burn fantastic....I will definitely buy them again next year....

I get mine from my local Earth Sense Energy Systems dealer in Tomahawk (Tomahawk Pellet Stove Junction) but they only have Sommerset for preorder. You can call the various dealers they may have some extra leftover. If you pre buy you either get Pro Pellets or the Sommersets- both are great pellets, and they guarantee to have Uncle Jeds in stock which is also a great pellet. They all put Marth to shame.

This is my second year burning sommerset pellets. They give out very little ash and burn quite well.

I picked up 10 bags of ProPellet to try out against my Pres-to-Log (Lignetics) that came with my stove purchase. Pro pellet burned way cooler, way more ash, way more clinkers and way more faster. I have to thoroughly clean my stove after each bag. The Presto's burn wonderfully hot and low ash. Maybe I just got a bunk batch of Pro Pellets?

You could have bad pellets due to poor storage.

No legitimate complaints on burn in 3 yrs. Edging my way to over 2,000 tons sold this year.

Ive burned every pellet they make. I loved the Hammer hot ones, until I found some Somerset Pellets. Somersets are by far the best pellets Ive burned. AWSOME. Hope I can find them in the summer for the winter. I hope so............

I totally agree...Somerset is the way to go...have burned Natures heat, Warm front,Lignetics,Fireside Ultra and Somerset's have been the best hands down.Hot and clean.

There great. The only problem is you can't find them. Hit or miss @ the companys around here. Plus they cost 330 a ton. I'll pay that for good pellets.It just seem to be so many companys out there now and 98% of them burn like S**t. We get robbed in New England I must say.
When I found Somerset pellets the company that I bought them from said they got the wrong shipment. So now I'm going to have to do my homework to find them for next season, or go back to burn junk. Hamer hHot one are real good, but hard to find also.

I have a big house and 1 bag @ 75 degree's for 30hour, one bag. No joke. I'm blown away. Other companys I'll burn 2 to 2 1/2 bads anight. NO JOKE. Trust me...............

Hey Herman,

Small group of us here in central Ohio purchased 16 tons of summerset @ 163.00/ton last April. Like others have mentioned they are the best pellets to date I have burned. Pro Pellets were very close second just more exspensive and had to travel further to pick up.

There are now five of us in central Ohio (Marysville Area) that would like to purchase a semi load but need a couple more burners.
Were not stuck on summerset, will burn pro pelltes, just depends on price difference/availability.

I tried AWF and I wouldn't wast my time, I had a great price from the factory in Circleville but poor heat/high ash/tons of fines turned me off.

I find it interesting that everyone on this thread absolutely loves the Penningtons and yet if you go to the "Pennington pellet sightings in Northeast MA/Southern NH" thread, almost everyone with the exception of one or two people hate them.

Is it possible that a different pellet is sent to the Northeast, or could it be that a lot of people received mishandled shipments? I know people say different pellets work good in some stoves and not in others, but this is completely the opposite. Any thoughts??

It definitely reaffirms the fact, that it's best to try a few bags first before buying a ton or more. I am in the process of buying for next year and Pennington's have my interest so I will try a few bags, if I can find them.

Only been burning one season and burned 3 tons of NEWP. They were okay. Burned a bag of Corinth, but was not impressed I also tried a few bags of Lignetics, Green Supreme and LG Granules. I liked them all, Lignetics the best, and Green Supreme and LG close behind.

Oh well, I was confusing Somerset with Pennington, disregard all those remarks. I need another cup of coffee! Still interested in trying SOMERSET Pellets.
