It seems as though firewood is not only an excellent heat source, but good therapy too. I have been laid off from work since Christmas time and don't seem to be having much luck finding a new job. Most of the honey do list is done. Ice fishing was a good time killer during the winter but it has been prettty boring lately. I was able to spend most of today splitting and stacking wood. Felt good to be active and productive. Atleast this free time will allow me to get a good jump on the wood supply for next winter. Only about 14 cord left to go!

There have been many Sunday mornings on which my wife and kids head off to church and I stay at home. I tell my wife that "MY god is in a wood pile in the back yard!" She understands...

I agree, the whole wood burning process, (collecting, cutting, splitting, stacking and burning) is good therapy.

Agreed. They rewards will be felt next winter. Nice knowing that your good hard work pays off and you can see and benefit directly from it's results.

Good luck with the job hunt. Who knows what will show up...For now, as the saying goes, you just 'chop wood, carry water' the rest will somehow work itself out. ;-)

We hope the paying job returns soon for you. But 14 more cords for next winter? What are you heating?

It's nice to be in the company of people who like to work outside of work. Stacked wood is money in the bank.

I will gladly loan you my honey do list which never seems to end. With 14 cord coming you could always sell firewood. Best of luck!

At least throw a plug out there - like the general vicinity you live in [NW CT is broad] and what you do. I'd consider us folks part of your 'network'. You never know where your next job may come from...

Yikes! To each there own, but I'll give the God who made my woodpile a few hours on Sunday. After all, he gave me the rest!

Thanks for all the well wishes people, I do appreciate them.

The last 3 years I was a machine setup technician at a small silk screen printing company in Waterbury, Ct. We primarily did printing on plastic containers for the cosmetics industry. Our biggest customer was Risdon. Anyone local that follows the news will know that they stopped production totally in January after the bank cut off thier credit. Prior to working here, I spent 10 years at a VW dealership as a service advisor and then shop foreman. The automotive field is where I have most of my experience, but that industry is slow right now too so openings are few and far between.

Yes, currently we have atleast 14 more cords bucked and waiting to be split. My buddy and I cut and split together and provide the wood for both houses. He is actually my supervisor from work and still goes to the shop every day. So I will keep at the pile while I still have free time. We also add to it as often as possible, you can never have too much! Selling some has been a thought too.

I find that splitting with an axe and / or maul is an excellent way to take out fustration. Sometimes, nothing is as satisfying as giving something a good whack with an ax. Might as well be firewood, rather that whatever I might actaully feel like hitting. I'll admit to occassionally imagining a face on the end of a round.

Good luck with the job search.

Peace,
- Sequoia
