Lookin' good, Ray. I'm all set for next season, as well. Before the summer's out, I'll be better than three years ahead. I learned my lesson well a couple years back. ;-P Rick

I like your shed and your yard cart....got meself a yard cart from the wifet for my Bday and that thing kicks some Heiny!

I'm still using a wheelbarrow but when it wears out I will look at a cart. I'm like y'all, cutting now for 2010-11. Don't it feel great! Like money in the bank.

My wife, who does a lot of stacking (and burning), understands that. After she put some more seasoned wood up in the shed the other evening, she stood back looking at ~7 cords stuffed in there, and she said, "It makes me feel rich." Rick

Yes only a wood burner understands the security that comes with prepaid for heating fuel...

Ray, good looking stack. It sure does give a warm and fuzzy when it is all tucked in and safe.

It makes me feel rich

In many ways.

It doesn't look that shed is even half full. You trying to say that little bit of wood lasts you two years? My shed when stuffed right full to the rafters is about 13 cord and it wouldn't last me two years.

Roughly 4.5 cords in there... This past season took less than 3 cords.. This stove is very efficient.. Twenty yrs old go figure...

My snowblower also lives in my wood shelter and my wood cart.. I may be getting more wood from some oaks in my yard so the cart will have to come out but the snowblower must stay plus I have a stack of woof outside the shelter that will end up in there in the fall.. Sure is nice to have a roof over the wood now.. After all these years having a good cart, a decent inside wood hoop and a shelter burning is much less of a chore..

I have a cart too and really loved it until I injured my psoas muscle a few years back while stacking my wood for the season.

Learned that pulling a heavy load is harder on the body than pushing a load. I still have to be careful or it starts acting up again. I leave the heavy loads to the children who are more able bodied than I am and don't seem to load it up as much as I used too...

Covering the bottom of our cart helps keep the wire mesh from breaking when wood hits it too.

Your shed looks great and so does all of your wood. Like others have said - why stop? When my mind sees empty space that can be filled with more wood it doesn't rest until the space is filled. I would make all the extra things in there find a place of their own to 'live'. 8-/

Good work Ray. That will give you much pleasure in the days to come.

Funny you should mention pulling a muscle with an overloaded cart... I lost 2 days of work after a oversized load.. I wonder if that's what caused it?.. I added one more pic after I rolled up and secured the front and back tarps.. Gotta say this design has its' advantages over a sided shed but also it's disadvantages for sure.. What I do like is the excellent airflow and sun that warms the wood.. On the negative side I have went through a lot of bungi cords with all the wind hitting the tarps..

Hey Dennis,
Yes it sure feels good seeing that wood checking on a daily basis.. Trust me if I come across more good hardwood I will make room and if necessary I can attach a lean-to to store the snowblower etc.. If I ever happen to be in Michigan I will be sure to look you up and check out your operation (if I am welcome that is)..

Ray

Ray, that is a sweet shed. I like the roll-up and roll-down feature for the sides. Can I ask how much that ran you in dollars and time? Also, how big is it on a side and how much can you store in it.

Ray, the welcome mat is out!

I still want to get up to Woodstock sometime and who knows, maybe I'll include your area in the tour. I have a son in Reading, PA and we've talked about taking some trips using his place as a home base. Time will tell.

btw, except for that equipment you keep in the shed, I would not hesitate in leaving it open year around. You could always just throw a tarp over the snow blower and cart.

Maybe some day I'll post a picture of my atv shed. It is nothing but wood stacked at an angle and old metal roofing. Works like a charm even if it does appear a little rednecked. But where we live it is fine as we live right in the woods and can not see a neighbor from our place.

Thanx Woodsman! It took me roughly a week altogether I think (I have no concept of time).. At this time only the front and back roll up but I plan on something similar for the sides.. How I rolled them up was to roll up the tarps with an 8' piece of closet pole then secured it with bungi's to the main beam then pulled out the pole.. The storage area is roughly 12'x16' (built on my old deck which used to be attached to the house).. The front has close to 9' of height and the back about 6.5' .. I would say you could stack 6-8 cords (6 cords if you stack 4' high and fill the whole deck to that height) in there if you stacked it high enough.. As for cost it ran about $1000.00 for materials (already had the deck).. Some people here have similar except no deck and used pallets to keep the wood off the ground and that works just as well..

Hope this helps,
Ray

You are welcome here as well... Living in the woods has its' advantages for sure.. I am in the country but the wood shelter is visible as you drive by even though it is over 200' from the road.. I do not leave the sides open during burning season because we tend to get wind driven snow and on occasion rain.. The tarps keep 95% of the weather out yet let lots of air in.. I'll leave it open till early October now to maximize sun and wind and it gets a good amount of both where it's located...

Ray

Ray, that's really looking good. Don't ya just love having it under roof like that! Nice job....... :)

Thanx Prada yes I do love having a roof over it for sure!!! It is expensive to do but am glad I have it!! Back when I started burning I could not afford something like that.. It is a luxury for me... You have a nice shelter too I do recall you building one way back..
