I no sooner posted this thread - then I looked up and there was an advertising banner showing a hand truck for fire wood with a canvas liner. That looks perfect - just what I need. It's scary - like Hearth.com is psychic ..... I used the beach towel again to fill my bin - it's not good on the back. It's going in the trash and I'm gonna have a hand cart for next season! Thanks for the input

tractor and 17 cu foot cart gets me about a weeks worth from the main pile/stack to the front porch. From there I just bring it inside by hand.

I guess I take for granted my attached two car garage. We keep only one car in it and it is not too cluttered since I have a workshop/storage shed out back. So I store one to two cords at a time in the garage. When the weather is dry I just fill up my s10 off the wood piles and back it into the garage and unload. Then as I need wood I use one of those leather slings and carry it from the garage into the house to the stove. Years ago I used to just keep one of those hoops filled up in the garage and would need to refill it once or twice a week. I can see where different houses would require different methods. Tony

I've got a nice size garage that is attached to the house and stored ~2.5 full cords in it. We had a January thaw and I restocked it then from outside the garage. Should I be concerned about bugs getting in to the house?
Until I moved I always ricked onto surplus wagons & hay trailers. This year I thought I'd try conventional ricks. Trust me, next years wood is all going on surplus wagons & trailers to be kept in a unused tobacco barn. This year I've used this between the wood pile & the back porch:

i would love to see some pics of anyone with a basement window turned into a chute......its exactly what i have in mind for next year. i think i made 10 billion trips down the stairs....lol

Yeap - that's the one I need. That'll get it done.
I also store some in the garage and was considering parking one car outside - but that one car would have to be my truck and I don't like getting into a cold vehicle and cleaning snow off it.

I use a wheel barrel to move wood from the back yard to the front covered porch. If it snows, I snowblow a path. It takes about 5 wheel barrel loads to give me enough wood to burn 24x7 for the week. The stove is on the other side of the chimney shown in the pic so I use a canvas wood carrier bag to bring a load in.
