thought about a new stove but it became pricey real fast so i went with the pacific energy vista insert as we allready had a factory fireplace. it is awesome, it heats the house more evenly with way less wood than the fireplace. the install was a little tough but my son and i got it. i got alot of good info from this site and am gratefull it is here, thanks everyone.

I've got a vista. It is pretty good but the max I can get is a 6 hour burn using dry oak. Anything else and it only goes max 4 hours. In hindsight, I should have put in a larger insert. How large is your house?

2000 square feet, and yes the burn time is short but i have alot of coals in the morning so a little kindling and it takes right off. i also have a corn stove in the back part of house so this is ok with me. i will try to get some pictures soon,

Wow--1.4 cu.ft fire box.

What a waste of money.??

research, research, first always??

Then you wouldn`t have done that..

Ignore it smokydog. Glad you are happy with your new investment from your hard earned dollar. Sounds like its heating your home just fine. As for sonny/redranger it is time for you to take your pill.

i may have gone with a larger insert but that is all the room i had for a safe install. i am happy with it , it is safer and puts out way more heat than the fireplace ever did.

I've heated my 1350 sq. ft. cape for 2 winters with my Vista and we love it. It does a great job with good, dry wood. I think a lot of the guys that think they need big stoves need them because they are burning poor quality wood or have a much larger house to heat. If it works for you, that's great!

Good on ya. The best stove in the world is the one you like and that heats your house. Sounds like you have that. A high quality stove and it is doing the job.

I installed a PE vista insert in December, bigger insert would have required replacing the wooden mantel above the fireplace. Only managed to get the living room up to 84 F twice :). The furnace would run in the early morning hours to keep the temperature up. Most of the time there were enough coals to start the fire in the morning. Putting a quarter log wedged into the rear bottom edge makes a big difference in the amount of coals in the morning.

Kevin.
