We are getting ready to build a greenhouse. It will be roughly 12' x 20'. Part of the materials will be doors and windows we salvaged during our 2006 remodel. But parts will either have to be scrounged, found or bought new. Has anyone read some good recent materials on greenhouse design and planning or built one recently? We have the original Solar Greenhouse book from 1976 as a guide, but it's a little dated in some areas.

I'm in tthe process of doing the same thing from salvaged materials. I have been searching the internet for ideas. Unlike yourselves, I live on the Canadian border in upstate NY and will have to worry about snowload and insulation. I plan on using my outdoor wood furnace for heat during the winter. I want to try and set up an aquaponic system with fish, prawns and vegtables. Someone gave me alot of 4' by 6' double pane windows. I just have to figure out the best way to build a frame. I decided to have a solid north wall where the fish tanks will be kept. Please let me know what kind of ideas you come up with.

Actually, snow load here is a concern too. We can get large wet sudden snowfalls that do a lot of damage due to the weight of the snowfall. Our roof will be braced accordingly. Here's a website with lots of information and some good links that I am working through right now: http://attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/solar-gh.html .

Pook, that link was informative. I may try the bubblewrap insulation. Thanks.
