I need another wood stove about as bad as the North East needs rain right now but a guy down the road has a new Princess on the pallet for sale for $2,400 which I ain’t about to pay but…

Besides, the entertainment value for North of 60 from me thinking about a BK stove is priceless. cheese

$2800 around these parts. Go for it BB, then you can really give that Pine burner some heck up North of 60. See if he would take 2k for it.

Might as well. With the tax credit and the fact that everybody thinks I like ugly stoves, what the hell?

BTW Todd: It is still on the pallet so if you want the guy's number I will pick it up and deliver it to the FedEx Freight terminal a couple of miles from here.

If he pays the shipping? I suppose I'd have to buy you dinner again? Nah, the wife would kill me, we are both waiting for that big Woodstock to come out.

Would you repaint it the same color as the 30?

You bet.

Away to much[$2800} and the blower is an extra $289. I have a 30 year old Triumph in my garage that will burn for 10 hours. My recollection is cost me $400 and had twice as much steel in it. Not sure what ever happened to this company. It sure made good stoves.

Now that caused me to stop for a minute. How long does a TR4a burn?

My cousin had a TR-6, and he couldn't get a 10 hour burn out of it, of course he had a lead foot.

Back on topic, BB you didn't mention which version of the Princess this is, but if it is the ultra, with the blower, then that would be about what the dealers were wanting around here last spring.

The Princess Ultra is my pick for next stove, but so far, have not collected the money for it. In fact if I had the money, I'm not sure I could pull the plug, as $2400. is a lot of money for a stove, and my wife is not in favor of buying one right now.

Stoves aren't like cars. They last for 25 years. I have looked hard at the cost and appearance of stoves. Pacific Energy has a very attractive stove. However it burns wood like a $750 stove. Blaze King can burn for 20 hours with a catalytic converter. Which will probably have to be replaced every seven years for $400 0r $500. A Drolet looks just as good as a Blaze King and burns at 77$% efficency rating and cost $899.00 and the price includes the blower. Why do you want to blow 3k on a Blaze King in order to get 82% energy efficiency that's a grand increase of 5% for $2100 more. Boy what can one say about the powers of modern marketing.

I am still trying figure out this wood stove thing. It all confuses me. :red:

$400-$500 for a replacement cat? Where did you find that number? I also don't buy that efficiency number of the Drolet. It's prolly the new efficiency rating to get that tax rebate, BK hasn't changed theirs yet, so I expect it to be in the low 90's if you want a real comparison. Most people find they make up for the cat cost by burning far less wood than a comparable non-cat.

Most cats I've owned have cost me more than that in vet bills. ;-)

Efficiency ratings on stoves are essentially meaningless and bogus. They're all similar enough to throw that info out. What does matter is burn time and only a large cat stove can have a long burn time. There's only one (decent) really large cat stove on the market and that's the BK.

I more or less agree, but I'd include the Buck 91 second on that short list.

The Buck91 is quite large at 4.4 CF but lacks a thermostat for the long even burns and is even more "unique" in appearance than the BK. Unfortunately, Buck doesn't offer a medium sized stove on a 6" flue to be comparable to the princess.

I suppose we could also consider the X-large VC but that seems to be a nightmare to operate.

It's all about burn times.

Good thing its warm out.... cause if it was winter and all the PE owners were on the comment made about PE i am sure would start the flames!!!!! lmao
for the record my summit performs exactly the way i would expect spending 2300 ...
HOWEVER.... all this BK talk and testimony i have read does make me wanna put one in the basement or switch out the summit (put the summit in the basement)
but i gotta figure on spending a whole lotta money i dont want to so i gotta wait
Brotherbart, are you gonna get that Princess?

Nah. I just cannot get into the idea of jackassing another stove in and out of here again. My knees have finally recovered from the last two. I do this stuff by myself and my lightweight old self just ain't got another one of those in me. Todd and me both are stove junkies but I think we are both ready to cruise for awhile.

Myself right now I have to figure out how a scrawny old fart with no carpentry skills whatsoever takes the back door out of his house onto the deck out of that wall and lugs a new pre-hung one up there and installs it. If it is like all my other home repair adventures, disaster is waiting in the wings. It only costs 40% more to do it yourself.

No kidding. I was perfectly happy burning my old stove into that clay tile chimney for twenty plus years. Happened into this place and it has cost me a ton of money and work.

Hell, I thought they were just boxes you burned stuff in and they kept you warm.

Third try is the charm... don't I know. :)

I only get to refill mine once a day, any more than that and the house gets too warm, plus it stinks not having to constantly play with the air damper... save your money, it's all hype. :cheese:
