It didn't get above 65 here yesterday. I hope it warms up soon!

Love this Pacific Northwest weather right now - remember the mid 90's we had for days last week. This week we don't need air conditioning or a wood stove. This must be "Summertime, and the livin is easy"

Here in the swamps of Anne Arundel, we have not yet removed the winter cover from the A/C unit. Shocking. And worst of all...now that I've made a big deal of it (with various Brothers in law), I feel pressure to keep it on as long as possible. I'm sure I'll get over it when the time comes. (Aint even gonna happen this week, if the forcast holds.)

I believe Boston NWS reported their 6th coldest June on record. And with modern heat bias in recording, (see www.surfacestations.org), I would be temtped to compare that to 2nd or 3rd; for practical purposes.

I actually found myself warming my hands at the hamburger grill on July 4. Never done that before. Not in Maryland.

was 52 degrees this am at my house. I hear you there, I think my wife looked at the thermostat to turn on the oil furnace. She must ahve known better not to touch it though.

We regulate the house by letting it build up heat during the day and closing it at night. Normally I can keep it between 68-74 with a little regulation. Went down to 55 last night, but house was at 68 this morning. Now it's 65 outside and 70 inside, so we've started cracking open a few windows. Might even see a trace of rain tonight, but not enough to un-brown the lawn.

Interesting...we do almost the opposite when the days are hot. We open the windows in the evening and let the house cool down overnight (makes for good sleeping). During the heat of the day, the windows are mostly shut and the blinds angled to deflect the sun. With the good insulation we have, the house stays comfortable day and night like that. I gotta tell ya that after living in Northern Virginia for 12 years, I couldn't be happier that I don't even need (or have) A/C. Rick

ETA: It does feel good that the daytime temps have dropped a bit in the last couple days. Beautiful here now!

Hey BeGreen and Fossil - I'm about half way between you 2 in Oregon. I'm probably a little more like BeGreen when it comes to regulating the house. But in the end -if the heat is unbearable - we go to the finished basement where the temps stay around 55 most of the time. Come to think of it, we spent some time there last week sippin lemonade.

Interesting. I'm in your neck of the woods, bcnu. Last week I used Rick's method, but this week, the opposite. I occasionally use a tiny window a/c upstairs, but when I replace my horrible 100 year old windows this year, I expect to never need it again.

Hey Madrone
some nice wood u have there. I have some of that fancy Filbert wood here on the place too. Can u go thru quite a few c(h)ords
with your '75 axe?

Thanks, man. This will be the first year for Filbert for me, so I'm curious to see how it burns.

And yet another fire in the Firefighterjake Household last night as the inside temps were around 60 and my wife said she was cold . . . and so the Oslo was fired up again for a quick fire. Crazy weather. Crazy weather.

If I hadn't had my stove all "sumerized" I would of lit a fire last night as well. Was a raw 55F outside at 4:30pm and only 63F inside.

Yes I had a weak moment and turned on that horrible "F word"......furnace......gasp! :bug:

I've never considered turning on the air conditioner in January. Yet, both of my kids are covered up in
blankets today asking if I can start a fire. It would be more convincing if they weren't running around
in shorts and bare feet. Wet and chilly July day in Wisconsin.

Almost perfect weather here in sunny so. calif. I took my DD to the airport this morning came home and opened the front door for the breeze, but not the windows 'cuz I had to go into work shortly. We'll open up tonight for the breezes to cool down the poorly insulated 1947 calif. ranch house.

It got purty hot in So. Calif. for the 4th ... but we were up in Santa Cruz where the weather was beautiful and the temps mild.

When we are home, I try to use open windows rather than a/c, but sooner or later it will get hot enough that the a/c is a must. Then, it will get hot enough that the a/c don't do no good ... or at least, can't get the house below 90 F. That's when we go to the movies and hope it cools enough by the time we get home.

Peace,
- Sequoia

Yup, but it was a great day for spitting!

Same deal up here in da UP, where admittedly cold summers are (or at least used to be) somewhat more the norm. Got in a week ago and the house was 53 degrees inside, some days the high has been mid 50's with nighttime lows in the low 40's. We had several fires in the Majestic, but with the new Fireview waiting in the garage I finally had to stop that and start the install work. If this weather holds it will get a few test runs later in the summer. Supposed to finally break 70 tomorrow for strawberry picking. (Opening day!)

I think this weather is great myself, but unfortunately the mosquitoes agree. Worst I've seen here. I've got several dead/downed trees to cut, but I'm not going near the woods even with 98% DEET until it warms up and dries out some.

. . . and another fire going last night. In fact I came home and my wife said she had a fire going since 2 p.m. . . . I do have to admit it was kind of nice and warm in there . . . although still nowhere near what the normal temps are supposed to be for this time of year.

The good news is that it seems as though we're finally out of this crappy weather pattern . . . the weatherguessers are predicting sun for the next three days . . . although as I am looking outside right now Bangor is covered in a thick fog over the Penobscot River.

Looks like we are gonna have a couple of nice days here too. Maybe I can get that last cord of wood stacked, and be done for the rest of the summer.... Well, that is until I find more wood to process!

If it looks like it's going to get above say 75 then I do pretty much like the same thing as fossil. Our prevailing summer winds are northerly, right off the water, so it doesn't often get above 75. But when it does, and there is no north wind, I start shutting down the house in the morning, to hold in the cold. Usually that's only a few times a year. Most likely you'll find me out on the north porch enjoying the warmth when it happens.
