Free willow can back truck up to

Willow Cut and ready to split. 5 miles one way to free source and 2 cords worth. Have f150 so 4 loads and will be alll gone.
Have 1 cord of maple 1 cord of pine and .5 cord of ash.
Worth the trips? probably $15 gas in the truck and $10 gas in the splitter. Worth the taking?

Price for a cord of mixed hardwood split and delivered is $375 in my area.

Also have possible .5 cord popular take lined up. what you think of that?

for what woods worth in your area I would take it. Its low on the btu chart but what the heck!

Free is free . . . and by taking the willow it sounds as though you're getting some more wood that still isn't on the same level as oak or hickory, but hey . . . all wood burns and as others have said, no fire is cold.

In answer to your first question . . . I would take it . . . willow burns hot and fast . . . great for shoulder season fires, get things going or for using when you're hanging around the house all day.

Looks like all you have so far is 2.5 cords. Take all you can get! It all burns!! Even in the dead of winter you can still burn junk wood while your home to feed the fire. We just burn junk wood when we're home. Save the good stuff for night time and longer hours away from home. I scored three huge trailer loads of willow last year just a few miles from home. The tree service guys even loaded it onto my trailer for me.

I like the stuff. We burned a good amount of it last year. It seasons in a snap (like, 3 or 4 months for us, although it was stacked in full sun/win), burns hot, and lights easy. If you wood is less than seasoned (as ours was last year), you'll become a Willow fan in a hurry.

I love wiilow too. Burns better than soft maple i think. Wish i can find more.

I'm not going to say I love it - I mean it's not 3 year seasoned Oak, by any stretch. But if you're maybe a little behind on wood and looking for something to get you through the shoulder seasons while the good stuff is drying, it will keep you warm for sure. It all has its place.

I suppose taking the willow was worth it to get the pine and elm. Plus then you too can experience the miracle of the heatless fire that willow produces.

watch out for carpenter ants. For some reason, I have yet to see a willow tree around here get cut without having a huge colony in it
