I guess it depends on what you call a good deal!

Its haven't been able to find a decent pellet (LG's/Okanagen) for less than $279

A dealer near me in Sanford has MWP for $235. Might not be bad if they are the "new and improved" batch.

good luck!

Sam's Club in Bangor has Natures Heat for $244 a ton, not too many takers. There must be 3 trucks loads out front.

I was in HD this afternoon in Auburn Maine and they are selling Fireside Ultra for $269 a ton plus delivery. I beleive the delivery charge was $65 for one ton or more. Don't know enough about pellets yet to be sure that was agood deal or not. Still leaning toward the New England Wood Pellets although my best local price has been $299 a ton not delivered.

I just filled with oil at $1.799 from PitStopFuels. It kills me to do it but it's just cheaper right now. I do have a delivery of Okanagans coming at $289per ton plus $40 for the ride. It's high price wise but we love the feel of the wood heat. I've read good things about the Okans and hope they work well for me. I'll let you know if they were worth it in January!

Its funny I asked one dealer near me how much delivery is and he said "after you figure in the delivery charge, you may as wel
just burn oil"
I was like, sorry to say but at the $284 he was charging for Okanagens, even if delivery was FREE oil would be cheaper!!!!

Oh wel, looks like heating with pellets has become a luxury!

OINK OINK!!

Oh dont get me wrong, I will never heat with oil unless the prices gets crazy like a buck a gallon!
I love my stove and the bone penetrating warmth it provides!
(the kid loves it too!)

I bought 4 tons there saturday, they must of had 25 truckloads there then. If there are only three left now someone bought a bunch of pellets. I know the line was long saturday morning.

The guy at the door said they didn't do as well as expected, when I asked why all the pellets. 25 truck loads, WOW, about 550 ton.

Most places in central Maine seem to have plenty of pellets that have been sitting there for a while. Does anyone agree with me and think the prices will start dropping (below 250.00)? I would like to wait but its a little risky.

Going into yr #5 burning pellets I've always seen the lowest
prices in early Spring, then they've inched up by $5 or $10
a ton each month into the Fall.

Well, i just bought 4 tons at $249 & only $10 delivery per. Their made in Strong . I had my last ton of Maine Wood Pellets delivered from Athens that they owed me & the fella said the silos were full & they had plenty . Hopefully, we can put last year's redundant rumors of pellet shortages behind us. Muss

Macman- the pellet mill in Strong is new in the last year- they make Maine Choice Pellets- I have heard only good things about them, they are a hardwood/softwood mix. $249 is a good price. Need to test a few in the fall though.

These Maine choice pellets (the few bags I tried) burned great in my Leyden. I think you guys will like them when you try them.

My Okanagans were $414 to my door for 1.3 tons. Oil was $1.79 gallon on fillup two weeks ago. Losing money every day burning pellets. Nice.

This is off Harman's site. So if oil stays where it is it'll cost me 25% more to burn pellets. Second year in a row. Super.

In my situation I dont even look at the BTU method. I only heat the downstairs of my modest cape. I burn 1 bag per day(sometimes less on mild days) and never any more than that....so 1 ton last me 50 days(at least) plain and simple. I burn about a little over 2 tons a season usually depending on our winter. Last winter I paid 240 a ton so for about 550 I heated my house for the winter. Not bad. I run my furnace once a day for hot water for shower etc. works for me and its def. cheaper than running the furnace.

Strangemainer.... I just came from Berniers on Rte 4... they have no Maine Woods right now and he thinks they are gonna raise his price on next delivery but he was telling me what people said on here....NOT good reviews on the Maine Woods one. So I bought LG Granules(1 ton). Have 1 more ton to buy and I'm good for the winter.

I would buy natures heat for 244 a ton. A couple years ago they made bad batch but last years was good. Much better. i burned about 20-30 bags of them last year

For people in Southern Maine. Call Bob Maurais of Southern Maine Renewable Fuels in Windham. His telephone # is 207-205-5562. His prices are reasonable and he has many differant maker of pellets. His website is www.woodpellets4me.com . I've done business with before. He is a fair man.

Yeah, Bernie said what we all have heard or experienced. MWP sucks. He had a bag on the wall like he use to sell them, but
now he has okanagens and LG's

I might pick up some more LGs or Okies from him so I'll be all set.
OINK OINK!!!!!

I agree Chris. I am just a few bucks of saying the heck with it and use oil til pellets get reasonable. $300 is my cutoff limit....they get to $300 and they lost me and actually theres many at work that burn and have pretty much said the same thing.

The mills play a part in controlling prices too. A pellet dealer near me told me he was cut off by 2 Maine mills because he undercut in price for the area and they did not like that one bit. They tried to dictate what he would charge.

If they dont keep the price at a worthwhile price.....why should anyone lug em when they can turn the thermostat without the wear and tear on the body.

With the price of oil down why are these guys selling pellets for so high. There seems to be plenty of them out there so theres no shortage

I was thinking the same thing as I was lugging my 3 tons down the bulkhead and into the basement.
Last year I thought I was smart and every bag I lugged in I felt it was saving me money.
This year the pellets seem like a luxury.
