We have a new small stove shop in town and they will be selling Pacific Energy stoves. I am considering replacing my 20 year old Jotul #3 with Alderlea T4. Does any one out there currently have one or have any opinions on this stove? What price range is it in?

Around $1,800.

I think it is an excellent performing stove based on reviews. The castings look really nice on the brochure but some owner's photos show some odd alignment issues between the plates so be sure to look over the stove you buy.

The internals of this stove are about the best you can get in a non-cat.

The F3 is more of a heat radiator than the Alderlea. The Alderleas are convection stoves. They will be slower to raise room temps, but also slower to cool down.

How large an area is being heated? If it will fit the room, I would strongly consider the Alderlea T5 while looking. It's firebox design is excellent. Over it's say 20+ yr lifespan the additional cost (~$2000 before the 30% credit) will trivial. But the convenience of the larger firebox and longer burn times will be greatly appreciated, especially when the temps dip into the teens or lower.

T4 Alderlea = $1920 ... i would also highly recommend that you got to the T5 Alderlea for $2230... longer burn times and easier to load.. but ultimately, you can't go wrong with a PE

This is my target stove for my 1000 sq ft Townhouse. I haven't installed it yet, because the inspector (WETT for Canada) says that I can't use my existing 8in triple wall flue. I need strata approval before I change out to a 6in HT system, since I'll change the external look of the building to do it. So I can't move ahead until at least September (next meeting). There is only one review I can find here https://www.hearth.com/ratesingles/rate2294.html. I also read the PE Vista and Vista classic reviews, because I understand they have the same firebox. I wish a T5 made sense for me (for burn times), but my place is too small and I'll only be burning evenings and weekends.

If you do go ahead with this stove, could you please follow up on this thread or post a review once you've finished a season or two with it.

I hope you find the right stove for you, and I hope my strata lets me go ahead.

Thanks for all your help. I will look into the T5 as suggested. If I go with it I will let everyone know how it works out.

wonder why mine was less than msrp?

it all depends on your dealer's markup and what they are selling.. with us the 1st few alderleas we got did not exactly fly off the floor, so we sold a few for significant discounts... later on as the popularity of the alderleas grew online in review on sites like this, we sold more.. still do way more super 27s and spectrums than alderleas, but we don't cut the rate anymore.. also it depends on how heavy the dealer sells the brand (and this goes for all stove companies). with all dealers, the more volume of a product that you buy, the bigger the discount you get. a store that sells fewer than 50 units a year gets around 40% markup on their cost. a store that sells, say, 200 units gets closer to 55% because of the big shipments it gets at a time (also, if you pay up front, instead of installments for a load of stoves; this can gain you as much as another 6% for paying cash up front), so you can get a dealer who can drop 10 - 20% on a hardass customer looking for a stove he has more than a couple of, and still make a 40% margin. thats probably why.

Woops, I actually mistook the T4 for the T5. I believe that both stoves are good but would much much rather have the larger T5 because of the larger firebox. It's hard to load my 2.3 CF firebox, I surely wouldn't want to fiddle with a 1.4CF box. BG posted the T5 link already.

You can always build smaller fires in the T5.
