Hello all, have been researching for 2 years and the tax credit persuaded me to pull the trigger on an insert, too much heat going up the chimney, couldnt take it any more. The forum has been a wealth of info. Thanks to all. Purchased a super 27 PE insert, have discovered the clearance to bend the ss liner is to tight to make the turn into stove. There is 3 inch piece of angle iron, and a course of brick below the damper in the way. I am thinking i have to cut out the angle iron and chip out the brick to make room for the ss lining. Is this a normal situation?

An easier way is to use a 30 degree fixed angle stainless steel elbow.

i dont know if i would have room to fit it in there , top of stove is 21 inches from hearth, angle iron is 26-1/2 inches. if i pushed the whole unit in 3 inches it would fix the problem, but surround would have to be custom fit to fit inside of fireplace hole.

I had the same problem with the Vista insert which is the same distance in from the front. I put a 45 degree elbow in to make it fit. Another recommendation I received was that an adjustable 90 degree elbow can be twisted to move the opening back.

Technically the elbow is supposed to have been tested with the liner which means made by the same company. I had a hard time finding the part and found elbows from other companies didn't fit as well.

Thanks for reply, i spoke with insert dealer and he said simpson makes an offset flue adapapter that is low profile and will take it back about for inches, going to look at it tommorrow. anybody seen or used such product? searched online coulndnt find it.

I have one like that on my I2400 Regency insert. I was concerned about it restricting my draft but it works great. Makes cleaning the liner a little more difficult, but not bad. You have to scrape or vacuum the creosote that falls down from top down cleaning since it doesn't all fall into the firebox.
