Okay, so I'm now ready to admit that I'm powerless over my woodpile and that I suffer from FSS (Firewood Scroungers Syndrome). I came to believe that a power greater than free wood could restore me to sanity......lol.

Once you get started it's hard to stop! Just scored 3/4 of a cord of 3 year old seasoned Cherry for free--they were selling the house and the new owner's wanted the sellers to get rid of the "icky wood pile" because they are afraid of spiders......

One the way home I spot a nice standing/dead Oak tree in the front yard of a local church. I stop in to ask about cutting it down, the pastor asks how much would I charge and I said "nothing, I'll do it for the wood." He tells me that they got an estimate from a pro for $300, but if I would do it they'd give me $100 because "that's a lot of work and we wouldn't feel right if we didn't pay you." I checked the base of the tree and it's still solid, so it will be an easy drop and a good cord++ of nice oak, plus $100!!

It's getting so I can't drive anywhere without looking for standing/dead stuff along the road......one tree--I mean--one day at a time!!!!

Can't beat that! I'm the same way though. Whenever I'm driving around, I always see piles of freshly cut wood. I have to resist the temptation to pull over and ask the homeowner if they want it removed.

Now you guys are really getting into this thing. Go for it!

Hi my name is Rich and I suffer from FSS also! :) I must confess, I'm not seeking a cure, but MORE WOOD! Found a tree at a dump site partially bucked, partially slabbed that is at least 4-ft diameter. There must be 1 1/2 cords of wood all total. It will require a front-end loader to even move the slabs and I'm about to go nuts trying to convince myself to leave it alone. AHHHhhhhhhh !!

Just go out and buy yourself that front end loader. Imagine how much more wood you could scrounge with it.

Hi, I'm Jay My wife and I suffer from FSS also. We go out and she points out all the wood on the side of the road I need to check out. She's a real slave driver ;-P . She even tells me where the news reports downed trees at after a storm.
