Used to burn five to seven cords a year. The last two seasons I burned three and change. And as she said "This is the warmest this house has ever been.".
Actually before I came to terms with the new stove it was too damned hot in here. And I used to burn the old one at 1,000 degrees top plate temp pretty regularly. I try to keep the 30 around five to six and we get more heat in the joint. Go figure.

Congrats on the new stove SolarAndWood...the posters up in Alaska speak very well of the blazekings. Was that a show room model from the E Syr stove shop? Anyway I'm surprised you burned threw 2 CAT stoves is 2 years...looking forward to your reports on the BK.
Thanks SA. The E Syracuse shop didn't have anything on display or in stock. I bought Daryl's demo and had it shipped. Worked out well.
The two previous stoves each worked fairly well the first year but fell off and were done by the end of the second year. They were both run hard, lit in October and didn't go out until end of April. If we were more attentive to the stoves and didn't have the heat requirements because of the major remodel, I'm sure we would have had better results. We are pretty utilitarian and don't find the BK's looks objectionable at all, so I think it is probably a better fit for us.

Is it the nickel door? They don't come out and say it is available but the photos show it sometimes. I know you found a demo but what were your findings for prices on new kings? Good to see one go in, there are so many options with this stove be it legs or pedestal, classic, parlor, ultra, black door, gold door, nickel door, etc. but still the same firebox. Reminds me of the PE line in that way. That fan kit is supposed to be equivalent to a heat shield in terms of clearance requirements. I'm also curious about how loud you feel the fans are.

SolarAndWood, I think you are going to be very happy. Many people have come and gone on PMing me on the BK. Many have returned a PM again after our discussions and there purchase with a big thanks on introducing the stove to them. Two people have also purchased the inserts. They all have had the same results as I. After running the BK they have all said that they cannot believe the control they have over their stove on a full load compared to any other stove they have operated. The closest is the Woodstock series. Welcome to the club and enjoy your upcoming heating season. I am glad you got to benefit from Daryls advertisement in the articles for sale post. That was a wonderful deal. After you run your stove the real value will shine through.

Auto-Rain will sell ya a King Ultra with gold door and fans for $2,235 plus freight. I have only seen one person that bought a stove from them on the forum but he was happy.

Hey Solar and Wood I would challenge you to a duel my King against yours however I didn't hook it up to specs,so I know it won't outperform one that is hooked up to specs.I still get up to 15hrs of heat from mine.It would probably give longer heat times but I get tired of waiting for the wood to burn down.Even after 15hrs of burning I'm noticing two our three splits still in the thing.I look forward to your cold weather reports,congratulations on your purchase.

The stove sits in the middle of 1000 sq ft room. I need to get heat around the corner of an L to another 1000 sq ft where the bedrooms and bath are. I think a few strategic cold air returns while I have the house open anyway for the remodel might get the job done. There is a third 1000 sq ft space that is a walkout under the 1000 sq ft room where the stove is. This is probably where my scheme will break down. The upside is that 99% of the family's waking hours are spent in the room that stove is in and the lower level has a lot of solar gain..
