I need a chimney brush...

I'm just about to install a rigid oval Simpson liner - 7 and change by 4 and change. Guess I'll also be buying a poly brush 8" in diameter and cutting it to size.....
 
The previous owners left behind a square brush. The chimney is metal and round. "You can't put a square peg in a round hole..."

Givent the build up in there, I can safely assume they never attempted.
 
I thought I was the only hillbilly that used a chicken wire mop or a bundle of tire chains.

I see I've come to the right place.

But life is easier since I bought a proper brush.

It was a bit complicated...and the rods never showed in my basket. But when I called the first time to check on the status, the ensured that the rods were part of the order. I'm sure by the phone is probably easier.
 
Skier, Thanks for the help. I called this morning and the young lady told me that the special is still going on but that it is for internet orders only. I placed the order this evening and I figure for $36.00 delivered to Ohio how can you go wrong? Like you said the rods did not show up on the order or confirmation, keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again.
 
i thought the same thing....$36 why not? I printed out a copy of the promo page just in case. Glad to hear you were able to order them. I'll be sure to post up when mine arrive.
 
Skier, I sent an e-mail when I placed my order and got a reply this morning that the rods would be included from a Fran in sales. I just recieved an e-mail this evening that they shipped out Fed Ex with a weight of 2 pounds, sounds too light to be everything to me. I guess we will see in a couple of days.

Brush and rods don't weigh much. You'll be surprised. I still get surprised when I pick up the brush box.
 
Has anyone received these yet? I'm interested in the rods & they don't have the 3 footers for sale separately. If the deal is real, I'd like to go for it.

My problem: brushing bottom-up in a Lopi insert. I bought the pellet stove rods because they're more flexible, but they're not rigid enough to push the brush up the flue. I don't think the longer rods will make the bent through the stove box into the flue, but 3 footers should work.

If anyone has other ideas, i'm all ears...
 
I have both poly and steel and I use both. I try the poly first and, if I don't like the results, I use the steel.

I checked with Metalbestos about using steel brushes on their SS pipes (not liners) and they had no issues (I think they have much greater concerns about lack of maintenance).

I have the rigid oval & wish I knew who makes a brush to fit it.

If you just need a brush, on Amazon you can get a Rutland 6" poly brush for less than $12. There might be some deals on rods too but I haven't looked.
 
Placed my order on the 26th and everything was just delivered by Fed Ex this afternoon. Fed Ex tracking said one package 2lbs which concerned me. When it was delivered it was two seperate packages the brush and connector in one, the rods in the other. Nice heavy duty professional looking brush, nicer than what I have seen available locally. Rod set is fiberglass .350 dia seems like it will work well. All in all extremely satisfied with the products the delivery and especially the price, thanks Skier for the great tip!!
 
Thank you Skier. That's a very good deal. I just jumped on it myself to replace my aging equipment. I really appreciate you taking the time to share.
 
Thanks again Skier for the great tip. Weather was nice and cool today so I went for it. Got out the extension ladder and the new cleaning supplies. Took off the cap and had a quick look, very minimal build up on the cap and the liner. About fifteen minutes total to scrub everything down with the new bush and rods, worked well. Went downstairs and used a small hose on the end of the central vac to suck up what was laying on top of the baffle. Had about three cups of greyish powder in the vac when I was done. The only thing I may do differently next time is I may go ahead and drop the baffle down, not much room to work with it in. About a half hour total time and 36 bucks for tools, nice savings from paying to have it done.

I'm not sure what central vac systems have in the way of filtration, but you may want to get an inexpensive shop vac and a fine particle filter bag and HEPA filter for stove/pipe cleaning to make sure you aren't putting any of that nasty stuff into the air in your living space or chancing damage to the central vac motor from fine particles. I have been told that it is not a good idea to remove drywall dust with a regular vacuum cleaner. I have to believe that the same thing applies to any fine dust, but I am not an expert.
 
Thanks for posting up Rudy when yours arrived. I was up in VT for a long weekend and when I went to town, I saw your post on my phone (the forum e-mails me). So I knew the setup would be there when I got home Sunday...and it was! Looks like a great set up for $36! I'm looking forward to testing it out. Also, glad to hear some others jumped on this deal as well.

I ended up burning in VT this weekend. I had an old rod that the previous owners left behind. I grabbed a 6" poly brush from the local hardware store. I wanted to have a 6"....just in case there was a lot of build up and it needed a "pre brush". Of course, the brush didn't fit the rod...and I had to duct tape it. :lol: But it worked just fine for getting about half the chimney clean.
