How much wood stored on your suburban lot?

I take A LOT of ribbing from the neighbors and family, but in the end, most are actually either jealous or now thinking about doing this themselves! Anyone can heat with gas; I still do it, but if you have the opportunity to heat with wood, go for it! It's just like growing a garden; geesh, some people see a garden in our backyard and they think that we are trying to "live off the land"; heck one of our neighbors kids didn't even know what a tomato looked like when she saw it hanging on the plant! As for your earlier post about scrounging...I was in the same position back in the spring; Craigslist worked good but in a reverse way...I put posts offering to take wood and ended up getting 6 calls in one week from people. Tree services never worked out for me, word of mouth did and once I started to get stacks in the yard that people could see, that would kick off conversations inquiring about them and from that I would get some good leads on wood. It's going to run hot/cold, but take what you can get when you can get it; but the key is to keep the other half happy. Without their moral support, it's a real pain to be splitting wood in 90F temps!

One more load and I'll have 6+ cords on my little .15 acre lot. By my calculations that works out to 40+ cords per acre.
That's a pretty high ratio and the reason why I built my wood shed as part of my fence using up the strip of unused land between my driveway and the property line. Just deep enough for two rows of wood, but keeps the wood nice and neat looking.

I have a semi rural lot 2.5 acres and about 6 cord split plus about 12 cut and ready to split and about 5 in long log lengths.

CL, that's one of the nicer shed's I've seen posted here.
I just found out my lot is almost 1/4 acre. I know it's just over 10,000 sf, but I just looked up the conversion. Anyway, I haven't really measured and converted, but I'd say I've got maybe 1.5 to 1.75 cords ... a lot for a fireplace, and a lot for someplace where it don't actually get cold 'till late Fall, but I'm always looking for more. It looks kinda hillbilly, but only if you come into the backyard, past the gate. Can't see it from the street, and can only see the firewood from the neighbor's house by looking over the block wall. In any event, the house 2 doors down seems to be a home for wayward (junk) vehicles and trailers. The front yard to house across the street and over one hasn't been mowed in about two years, and the neighbors to the east of us have had yard sale junk in their driveway for about a month and a half. Nobody really makes an issue over that kinda stuff. The new room mate at the east neighbor did comment on how much firewood I have, but it seemed to be in an admiring way.
One of these days I'll get a stove - then I'll either (1) gather more wood 'cuz it's heating more of my house, or (2) actually use less wood 'cuz just about any EPA stove will be a much better heater than the FP, so the wood will accumulate more (given the same rate of scrounging and luck holding out).

I have about 7.5 cords split and stacked with an additional 3-4 cords bucked on a 0.26 acre lot. Small house so a bit more space for wood!

I have about 8 cords, 3 of it still in its original, scrounged form, on about 2.1 acres, for a density of just over 4 cords/acre. We're on the big lot edge of suburbia here, and nobody but I can see, let alone complain, about the wood piles, which are both attractive and practical.

I have ~0.8 acres like Archie. About 3.5 to 4 cords presently. Almost entirely split, just a few Oak rounds remaining. I burn almost exclusively standing or fallen deadwood, and make sure it's properly seasoned.
I have taken to working with a number of lower height stacks and piles, giving me a 'lower profile' to neighbors. Nothing over 4 feet tall, most are less. This area is pretty heavily wooded, so the visual impact is still less. I plan a woodshed, possibly this fall, but I don't feel a lot of pressure to get it done just yet. Still, it would hold more, and a roof would be nicer than tarps.

6 cords split, ~3 cords waiting to be busted up on .75 acres just outside city limits. I am constantly rethinking my stack/holz hausen layout. I'm thinking more and more about trying to get most of it out of sight as much as possible, just to keep the 'ol lady happy. Cuz if mama ain't happy...... :shut:

5 cord on 2 acres. It wasn't the wood that clued the neighbors in to my issues... It was the chicken's.
