North NJ
Just to note that the dealer that I buy my wood from is holding the same price as last year. North NJ, $225 a cord. They always have well seasoned oak, available split in different lengths. Let you buy 1/4, 1/2 or full cord or whatever you want. You can buy any time of the year. I found others sell for a tad less, but this dealer has never disappointed me for several years now.

By the way, I'm also taking advantage of the NJ Clean Energy program. Along with the federal tax credit that would pay a lot towards a new stove, it'll be interesting to see how this all saves on my heating bills. This year's NJ program is much better than last year. The state program gives $1000 off the top for house air sealing, and 50% rebate for the rest of approved work (insulation, purchase furnace or central a/c, etc.). What is approved is determined by a formal energy audit - that cost is reimbursed by the program. My old Victorian house is a wind tunnel in winter and really does heat the backyard, so this program is made for me. There is also up to $2000 for work needed for health and safety (such as rewiring my old tube and knob electric wires needed before insulation). They are getting back to me on what the inclusion of energy star appliances means, having approved replacing my very old refrigerator. There are other programs for green energy solar and low income, etc.

Anyone out there in NJ, the program ends at end of year. I assume they will have a program again next year given the economy and state mandate for utilities to reduce energy consumption.

I haven't even seen firewood for sale this year (except at the gas station).
Last year some started with $350.00 / cord prices in August in the local paper and on Craigslist.

Waiting to purchase firewood (green or seasoned) just before heating season foolish IMO. Dealers know the public will pay a premium because they need the wood.

Our local Craigslist is full of firewood ads with a bunch at $35/fc. Last year was $60.

40-55 a face cord with out delivery

Yes, Syracuse NY Craigslist $35 a facecord. I bought 4 facecord which ended up being over 5 facecord when I stacked it. I don't ever buy wood, but for this price and the guy helping me load it, i thought I better.

Wow, guys want 100 plus a face cord and 225 plus a cord delivered in the Milwaukee WI area... Nice to see 8 plus cord cut, stacked, seasoned, and free!

Around here I see face cords advertised for anywhere from 40-75 depending on the type of wood. I don't think I would ever pay more then 150 for a cord if I had to buy some. I did cut some tree tops in the spring for 8 bucks a face cord.

This area of TN usually sees prices in the $30-45 per face cord. Higher prices are for delivery, of course. We found a guy earlier in the year that was charging $25 a face cord to fell, buck, split, and help load red oak. Needless to say, we've gotten all we can from him. Two years from now that stuff will be prime!

You'll all be happy to know that my lifetime streak of never paying for firewood (excepting the occasional cost of a cutting permit) remains unbroken.

Geeze that's cheep, it's like 2x to 3x more in the WNY area. If I had to buy firewood it would be worth renting a U-haul and take a trip to the syracuse area.

Thruway tolls, NY gas/sales taxes and fines for transporting firewood over 50 miles are good reasons to not do that.

Our wood prices are all over the place. I just saw an ad for hickory/150/face cord. I also saw an ad for a 10 cord load
of hardwood for $900 (eight foot pieces). If I didn't have a woodlot and a house yard full of wood, I'd be all over that 10 cord load.

ordered some from a guy some friends of mine ordered from last year, which his cords actually measured out to about 1 1/4 cords. He is charging $95 a cord up from $85 last year if he does not have to stack it and could just toss it off.
with my surgery coming up and not being able to cut or do anything with wood for 12 weeks.
I ordered 10 cords. Maybe more will see.
At that price I may just let him do the work for me that averages out to $475 (I always figure 5 cord but have never burned a full 5 cords in 1 winter 4 and a part if it is a cold winter) for all my heating in a winter gonna have to put a pencil to it and see if it is worth me cutting it if I can buy at that price.

Are you guys still fighting the beetles over there?

If somebody would dump split cordwood here for $95 a cord my saws and splitter would be on craigslist tomorrow.

I am in Somerset County NJ. You can get an average cord of hardwood for 150-200 delivered.

Ain't that the truth!!!!! 2 saws at 300 each, sharpener at 100, splitter at 1k...yep at least 1700 bucks. Thats 3.5 years of wood!!!

Wow, what different prices!
I was happy to pay the same as last year: $120 US / cord, 6-12 cord load, tree length.
Had a very hard time finding wood, though, due to local softwood requirements dwindling. Most of the hardwood (Maple, beech, yellow birch) comes from cutters working a softwood contract on a plot of ground, and selling the hardwood for firewood as a bonus.
I'm starting to scrounge a bit, to help cut some of my costs. Good thing I'm not adding my own hourly value to the scrounged wood, or I'd be in debt to myself!
Happy burning.

The problem of comparing cord prices is some people have smaller cords.

$195 a cord, cut, split, seasoned and delivered oak.

6 full green cord c (to my length)/s/d for $750. Hickory, red and white oak, sugar maple and some red elm. Or $400 for 3 cord of the same stuff from the same guy. Or $120 a cord of mostly seasoned red elm with some sugar maple, beech and cherry c (to my length)/s/d. The first seller has a processor the second seller has access to his dad's woods and is laid off. I prefer working with the second seller for the amount of really seasond stuff I have is not as large as I would like.

All green cut/split and delivered - 2 cords each delivery. Lots of oak, elm, maple, ash and hickory

Feb 09 - $135/cord
May 09 - $135/cord
Jun 09- $135/cord

200 to 225 for full cord in denver/ colorado springs. from almost everybody. drive 50 miles or so to a small town and you find it for 125, you haul it out price. huge difference so close together. cities drive the price of almost everything up! and drive me nuts too!

$10 per cord in the National Forest. 2 Cord minimum, 10 Cord Max. Oh, and about $50 in fuel for a 2-cord trip. Guess that works out to about $70 per cord? Denver prices are crazy with that much that close, same for hay down there.
