Installation Cost For Wood Burning Stove?

Hello Hearth.Com,

After talking to two different dealers in my area I've been quoted $600 for a Country ZC rated insert and $700 for a HearthStone Homestead. Both dealers say that the installation is guaranteed for one year. These prices seem steep to me.

What is the going rate for an installation in your area?
 
Installations for inserts with full liners can go up to $1500 typically. What exactly are they quoting for? Is there an itemized list?
 
I just had mine installed today. The majority of my install was delivery, I think, b/c we were 360 miles away from the nearest dealer. But $800 from a legitimate company that will back their work. The guys did work for almost 7 hours straight. Then the chimney pipe etc probably did push it around $1500..
 
They are going to install a 6in liner in prefab chimney with clean-out tee using the stock chimney cap. Set the Heartstone Homestead, connect to tee and burn a fire regardless of outside temp to check everything out. He did say it could take up to seven hours with two guys doing the work.
 
Sounds reasonable. I think we paid around $900 for the labor on our Endeavor install. It was a straight shot from a downstairs living space, upstairs through the corner of a living space, then through a small portion of the attic and out the roof. We have about 15' of Class A and probably 4' or so of double wall stove pipe.
 
If the quote includes the materials for the liner + tee, it sounds quite reasonable.
 
OK, that sounds more in line with what I would expect. Depending on length the liner + tee could add another $5-600. Figure almost a full days work for 2 men + travel time, etc..
 
If it's too expensive, you can always do the install yourself.


Get a couple of buddies, a case of beer, go up on the roof....
