Feeling the Heat

First off i would like to say, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to this entire forum for the amount of help and patience that was exerted in helping me understand what i had to work with and what insert i could safely and legally have installed in my prefab ZC fireplace(majestic SR-42)

that being said, today i put a order in for a Enviro venice 1700-V zero clearance wood burning insert. the damages came out to be $3,851.92 total. that includes install, taxes, delivery, fan, shroud, etc etc
I should have it installed within 2-3 weeks. dealer said it would take around a week to get the unit in the store, and another week or two to get a install time that is available.

the one thing i still do not understand is how a ZC prefab housing can support the 300-400 pounds that these inserts weigh...
I need to contact the dealer again as he said i would need to build up the hearth as the unit sticks out 9" past the flush surface of the wall. Im half way through the user/install manual now and hopefully it says something about that in there to shed more clarity on that matter.
this winter will be exciting to see how much lower my natural gas consumption will be, as i have a 3000 sq foot home, and i close off two of the upstairs bedrooms and their vents as they are not in use during the winter months.

again i want to say thanks to everyone who helped me with my endeavor to find the unit that will work for my situation.

i forgot to ask, how many cords of wood can one expect to burn in the enviro 1700 in a heating season?
the unit will be kept running almost 24/7 whenever i am home to feed it, which is most of the time aside from going to work, which takes me away from home for about 10 hours a day at the most. however my wife leaves for work later than i do so she can add wood if it is needed before she leaves. that puts the time away from the stove at about 8 hours. the rest of the time it will remain well stoked.
im located in south eastern wisconsin somewhat close to the lake...

Hard to say, no crystal ball for what the weather will be this winter. I'd have at least 5 full cords of fully dry wood on hand.

I have the Enviro kodiak insert with the 2.5cuft box thats built for zc fireplaces. It weighs in at 450. This will be our 3rd year and it works great, in fact its going now with temps at 39f outside. I built a raised hearth out of 2x6, durock and natural slate. That alone weighs as much as the stove but most floors can handle it. we also ran an insulated ss flex liner to the top for added security since the original chimney was a prefab double lined one.

if you can, please post a photo of your raised hearth.
is it required to have a raised hearth? or is that simply for cosmetics?

My guess is that you will need 3 full cords minimum although this will only be my second year with my enviro. My stove is going now although i can probly get away with not using it yet just couldn't wait to use it lol. Im burning 4x4 hardwood pieces from a furniture factory that has been around since 2000/2001. Definatly love burning wood thats been cured more then a year!

Here's ours. We have already burned through one holder's worth of wood this season. It holds about 1/10th cord. We are still doing the nasty job of stripping wallpaper off the surrounding wall so that we can paint and then add a mantle.

do i need to support the bottom of the insert or is that just for cosmetic benefits?
