Hey I am excited to finally install a wood stove. I have a Jotul 201 Turbo that my dad bought in a TVA auction about twenty five years ago. I think it was used to test efficiency. It has not been lit since he bought it. Everything seems to be in perfect condition but I would reallyt like to know more about this stove. Does anyone know anything about it or even better have an owners manual? Thanks for your help.

All I can tell ya is that it is a really different looking wood stove and supposedly an efficient one. Finding a manual or info is going to be one of those needle in a haystack hunts.
Should I be worried about not having it. Everyone is alwawys talking about how important it is to follow the manuals to the letter.
Folks here can give you lots of advise on using the stove. Installation is where the manual is key. It gives you information on clearances to combustible materials, chimney requirements and stuff like that. And is what inspectors demand to have to issue a permit for a legal installation.

I will post it tomorrow. It is in perfect shape. It has probably not been burned in more than a dozen times. It has been kept in a dry basement for twenty years.
Here are some pictures of my stove. I think what I am going to do since I can not locate a manual is just go with the standard three feet wall clearance and add a spaced backer board so I can cut that clearance to 1.5 ft. I will then use a double walled pipe through the ceiling and attic and add all the usual standard attachments for stoves. I am excited about this stove. Even though it does not have the nice big viewing glass I think it looks great. Next step is to clean it up a bit and make it shine. I still appreciate any tips, advice, or encouragement. Thanks.

If I were you, I would search all Jotul websites including European stove sites for information, manuals, specs. on your stove. Contact Jotul USA directly and some old time Jotul dealers. Then give it a first class cleaning and inspection for open seams, cracks and gasket checks/replacement. Looking also for ID information, SN etc. on it. Then the paint/polish of your choice.
I would max out your clearances on the install, as heat shields were not spoken in Norwegian when it was built. :>)
Let us wood burners know how it is going.

I will inspect it but it has really never been used. TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) bought this stove in 82 to test it's efficiency then auctioned it off. That is where my dad got it and he has had it ever since and never burned in it. Hopefully the guys at TVA did not over do it.
Finally got Jotul's 800 number and called them. The lady was very nice but had never heard of my stove. After I told her the year of manufacture she physically went and searched and FOUND the manual in their archives and put it in the mail for me within twenty minutes FREE OF CHARGE! Thanks Jotul and hearth.com forums. I will keep you posted.

Ah, it brings back memories... I burned a 201 Turbo for one season, in 1986 I believe it was. A ground-breaking stove at the time, though a tad finicky to use. An engineer's stove, for sure; marketing had very little input on this one. The front handle/ lever has two positions: position one to get the fire cranking and get the stove up to operating temp, then you close it and the secondary action kicks in and it's cool to watch it through the little porthole. You won't get long burns from it, but it's an 'engaging' stove to operate. Have fun with it.
Have you found a manual yet? I have one that I can copy for you. Also, the stove is one heck of a unit although it has some drawbacks ie., you can only put 15" logs in it and only 1 or 2 at that. Make sure you replace old gaskets so it'll stay airtight. I've heated my 'uninsulated' cabin with this stove but when the temperature gets into the teens you better dress warm. LOL The door itself works well as a damper. The handle can be adjusted to leave the door open a crack to really get the fire going. Once you see flames in the secondary combustion chamber through the glass viewer, you can close the door and damper and the stove will crank out some heat. Hope this was helpful.

Found an article in norweigan that told this stove was made in 1000 units only. Introduced in 1981, Jotul said this was the worlds most efficient stove for its time having an overall efficiency at all loads of at least 80% and was patented worldwide. I got the installation manuals with it in all languages and if you need it i can provide you a scanned pdf. I just installed it in my house and it seems very promising indeed. Amazingly well built too, and has a nice finish.

I used mine last winter and it heated our 1,000 sq ft house extremely well. Love the viewing hole. Love the low use of wood. Love the non catalyst secondary burn. Love learning to really make it work. love the sleek cast iron finish. Love the Runes on the front. Love the low profile. Great stove. I love it and would recommend.
