Harleysporty, how many sq. ft. did you heat, and what temp did you keep the house? That info will help Gripper better, IMO.

1300 sq ft keep the house between 75-80 depending on outside temps

I have 1300 sq feet, last winter I used a little over 3 tons, and could have used another 2 or so. of course I am heating my WHOLE house not just a corner or room.
For this winter I bought 6 tons, I will be adding my hot water to the heat load, and a 6' baseboard in the bathroom with its own manual shutoff instead of an electric heater in the bathroom.
I keep my house at 64 for the day and 60 at night.

Heating just over 1500 sq ft- 1st and 2nd floor of a Cape.
We burned just over 3.5 tons last year. Our first year.
Burned from mid-October through April.
Was warmer too!!

Burn on average 5-1/2 tons year for past 4 years Heating 2400 sq. ft. 160 year old home. Most walls 12-18" thick brick with stucco. poor insulation except in attic. Also burn about 300-350 gals fuel oil. home kept at 68 degrees day and 64 at night. Of course room with pellet stove is about 75.

In Southwest Ohio I used 2.75 tons last year. That was heating 24/7 with the furnace only being used on the 4 or 5 coldest days of the year.

House is a relatively new 1700 sq ft 2 story, first floor (with stove) stayed around 73 and second floor was around 68 degrees. I did have to use an electric heater for the finished basement.
