Seeking some "What would you do?" comments.

A week and a half ago I wrote a check to the closest dealer listed on the HearthStone website. Was told it would take two weeks for the stove to arrive. No big deal, still need to figure out how to make clearances and such as well as trying to pay for materials as I have the money rather than floating the entire cost on credit. Since the stove itself is the biggest part of the purchase I decided to buy now in order to make the 31 Dec. tax credit deadline.

Just returned a call to my local dealer and was told they can't get my stove and she hasn't cashed my check. She swears that this is the first time they have had a problem with HearthStone. For some reason they, Hearthstone are being really ugly.

All they can offer is purchase whatever they have in stock or find another dealer. Problem is the other dealers will not deliver or install in my area.

Getting ready to call HearthStone now but would like to here your comments.

Thats a tough one. Hearthstone makes a great product. I've dealt with them on and off for 25 years and never had them turn "ugly" You actually called the other Hearthstone dealers and they refused to come and install in your area, even if you paid extra for travel time? If that is the case, I would certainly call Hearthstone, tell them you want to give them business but your finding it difficult.

Yes what a wonderful stove...

...chalk it up to kismet, take the check and run and get a good plate steel stove. Even a caveman understands you want to heat your azz first...then you can heat stones later.

What style/model of HearthStone? And have you considered a Woodstock Fireview?

One dealer told me they don't service my area. I had talked to them months ago. Still a couple of others to call yet. We will see but they are all farther the 50 miles from my area. My dilemma is weather to ask the local dealer to install. I can only surmise that the dealer has done something to convince HeartStone that they were not being represented properly. If this is the case, why then would I pay them to do an install?

Makes a case for doing it myself. Could save $700.

Homestead in hearth mount configuration. I'll take another look at the Fireview. If I remember correctly the Homestead just looked better to me.

hearthstone is a pleasure to deal with....

no rush on credit btw.
Q: When does this tax credit go into effect and how long will it last?

A: The tax credit went into effect January 1, 2009 and is valid only for the purchase of a qualifying biomass stove during 2009 and 2010. The maximum tax credit for the two-year period is $1500. The sales receipt must indicate that the purchase was made between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.

Yes, you have another year on the credit.

Drive the 50 miles and pick up the stove. Sheesh, it's Texas, you drive that far to get milk.

Be glad that the dealer hadn't cashed your check, go get it now before they do and you're stuck. They wouldn't have called you unless they had to give up your business.

I think he wants to get the tax credit for this coming March, that is why he wants to install by the end of the year. Two options, pick it up yourself if you have a pickup truck or rent one. For $700 I'm assuming the install includes a chimney liner??? If it is just to drop the stove in place, that is way too much money. I looked at 3 stoves, including the Heritage and Fireview. I went with the Fireview and got a much better deal than I would have with the Hearthstone. For $2500 you can have a Woodstock stove shipped to a business close to your house. You can always use the original dealer for the install. I'm sure they will take your money.

mcguckins in boulder has them on sale for $1700 bucks in enamel. I would be even with shipping that would save you a ton. I dont work there, but was just in there the other day. Give them a call @303-443-1822

As a business owner. If you had called me and said I need this product installed (I am not in the stove business). If you were in the area I would say yes. This is what I charge per hour or a flat rate once I have seen the lay out. If out of the area I would charge the appropriate travel time and regular rates as stated. The only thing I would not warranty after installation is the product you purchased from some one else.

I am more than willing to take your money when no one else wants to.

That is my plan now. The dealer in Mt. Vernon will not deliver or install in my location. Their western boundary ends in a city just 20 minutes from mine. Previous attempts this far out from their location never seem to work out for them. I understand.
