I have a regencey woodstove located at the east end of my 1600sqft home. I have been using a 14 year old patton fan on a keyboard stand for the last few years to help distribute the heat to the other end of the house. I had an air king fan which burned up after one season(booooo). Looking to upgrade my ventilation and stretch my dollar as far as possible. Thanx
Looking for advice on a pedastal fan to help push my woodstove heat around house.

If you really want to stretch your dollar you can go with a thermo fan and save on electricity. The payback will take a season or 2:
For example

If you can, get a short fan with small blades and sit on the floor to blow the cool air into the warm room. That sounds backwards....but it works. In the coldest part of winter we use a Vornado fan by the stove and the small Vornado fan in the hallway blowing into the stove room.
When we started blowing the cool air rather than the warm air I was amazed. We've burned wood for a few years and when I read that little bit of wisdom I scoffed...but tried it. It did not take long for the far end of the house to warm up and it got a lot warmer than trying to move the warm into the cool.

I'll try the fans blowing into the family room (the room with the stove) to bring the cooler air in. Sounds odd enough that it will probably work.

Yes Shayn, check my signature line and you'll see we've been burning wood for a few years here. Yet, I never knew this until I read it here on hearth.com. Amazing that all these years I'd done things backwards and thought I was right. After all, it is my wife who usually does everything bass ackwards.... Anyway, it works great.
Shayn, cool air is denser and will be down at floor level. A box or table fan placed on the floor is more effective for blowing the cold air towards the stove. It really works and is how I now heat my office. I use a 12" table fan set on low speed. It's so quiet I have to remember to turn it off at night.

As far as the fan goes the knowlegable members (firefighterjake, shayne, dennis savage) have it right, pull cold air into the woodstove room and let convection circulation push hot air out.
Ditto on blowing cold towards warm, rather than vice versa.
I get better results moving the heat by blowing air at floor level from the cold room towards the wood stove.
