I am not sure how some of you guys got great deals at Lowes for their pellets this season here at the local Lowes they are 268.50 per ton and 79.00 for deleivery. Last week I purchase three bags to try because they are Pennington brand, which seem to burn ok in my insert however, I only burned 1/2 of a bag, but they would not offer me any discount what so ever and they had plenty of them.

I am going to Southern States in the morning, to see what brand they are selling in their flyer it did not state what type of pellet they are selling this year, here at least at Southern States they will give a discount for members.

Jake, I seem to remember some members going to the local post office and getting a "moving kit". It supposedly has discount coupons (10%?) for Lowes or HD. If you find that, it would shave the cost down to $242.

I was told by a Lowes employee to ask for the "contractor discount" on the ton price. Not sure if that's the price you already got quoted, but it's worth a shot. If they do come down some, plus the 10% coupon, might be a decent deal.

The postal coupon discount takes time. My son moved about a month or so ago....they DONT give the coupons out instantly at Post Office. They mail the discount card to you by mail. So it takes time. Also....at least at my local Lowes... they wouldnt "combine" discounts. They were already offering for 1 ton and deeper as you bought more tonnage. I ended up getting for 240 ish per ton. Then I needed 30 more bags that I fill my closet up with in my living area so I used the coupon for that.

I hope "most" get their tonnage early.... thats the key. Otherwise you might be paying top dollar at least until Feb. or so.

There were some forum members who tried to use coupon and the multi-ton discount at Lowes, but when sales person said no, they simply told them they'd go to HD and get them. The cashier said "Oh, don't do that!", called the manager, and suddenly Lowes changed their mind, and accepted both discounts. Hmmm, wonder why???

HD Here in norther NJ just got 40 tons of stove chow and fireside ultras . Both selling for 249 a ton.

Is HD still doing the multi-ton discount?

I recieved a flyer from Menards advertising $4.27/bag. Lowes price was $5.97/bag and asked if they would match it plus 10% off. At first they were only going to match if the name brand was the same. I showed them that the flyer states that name brand will vary from different Menards. Asked if that was true for Lowes also and they said yes. So I got 20 bags Penningtons for $3.84 bag. Not my brand of choice but will try them or mix with my other pellets. I was surprised that they took the additional 10% off let alone match the price.

Bantam, just curious....at that price (equivalent to $192/ton), why did you only buy 20 bags? That's about as cheap as your going to find pellets this year, IMO.

Three reasons.
First........ I have not burned the Penningtons before so did not want to buy too many.
Second... I did not have my truck with me. Just the family minivan. It was all ready filled with kid stuff. Had to put the kids on the roof.
Third........ I currently have 8 to 8-1/2 tons in the garage. Running out of room. I burn about 5-1/2 tons per year so this will be for next year. Actually I will burn these first and save the others for next year. Oink..

alot of these big box stores also have military/veteran's discounts as well. The HD and Lowes here in my area do...just show up with a DD214 or ID card and it's 10% off the top, although I couldn't get HD to bite on it when they were running their multi-ton sale in September...I still got the bags at $210 a ton + $49 delivery (5 tons) so I wasn't going to push it..
