With "lots of air space" in the pile I doubt if there is a good way to get a handle on that.

If it was maxed out it would be 4.7 cords (10x10x6).
Stacking it twice as thin would be 2.4 cords but it's probably not that much, how about 30%?
That'd be 3.3 cords.
I would say try to esitmate the percentage.

You need to measure the length and width of each stack of wood. Measure in feet. Multiply length times width, and you have the area of the 'face' of each stack. Add 'em together and you have the total face area, measured in square feet. This area divided by 32 gives you the number of 'face' cords of wood (4 x 8 ft, or 32 square feet, is the standard way to stack wood and the standard area of a 'face' cord). If your average length is 24 inches, then your face cords are half the depth of a true cord, so divide by 2 to get the number of true cords of wood. If your average length is between 22 and 24 inches, then you have slightly fewer cords of wood, but close enough.

Dismantle a large enough section to rank up all parallel, half of a face cord. Measure how much of the cross-piled stack you dismantled and that will give you the ratio you need.

My guess is the ratio you have is 3/5 meaning what would measure as 5 cord for space occupied is actually 3 cord.

If your wood is wet, I wouldn't put it in a building any sooner than you have to.

3 would be my best guess
