Our shop has been selling them now for a few years. Customers generally seem to be happy with the heat and ash content. Just wondering if anyone else has been using them and what their experiences are

Two winters ago I bought several tons of PA pellets and was very happy with them and their burn characteristic. Low ash and good heat. However, last year for a while, they were the only pellets I could find available for purchase. The first ton I purchased left too much ash. I was cleaning out the stove once or twice a week whereas before it was every 2 to 3 weeks. The second ton I purchased also had problems. The pellets themselves were too long (over 1 1/2 inches long) and bridged in my feeder which caused the stove to shut down due to lack of fuel. I called the company and was told they had just changed the chopper that cut the pellets to length and they said that it malfunctioned and was cutting the pellets too long. they said the problem was fixed and let me return the pellets back to where I bought them. They gave me pellets from a new lot and these were better with respect to pellet length. However, they were still producing an excessive amount of ash and caused me to constantly clean out the stove. This year pellets have been in more abundant supply and I have avoided buying any of the PA pellets and have ppurchased several other brands instead. If I knew that what they were producing today was as good as the first batch I bought 2 years ago, I would defineltly buy them again. Right now I am burning Keystone pellets and so far I am very happy with them ash wise and heat wise.
We also had a batch or two of long pellets and the company was great about refunding. I can't say that their quality is at 100% right now, but our customers seem to be very happy
I burned 5 tons of PA Pellets last season. Heat output was average but the pellets produced a lot of ash. I had to clean out the ash pan twice as often as usual. Also these pellets were long, some over 2" , and lots of fines. However the price was right, $199/ton, so I guess I got what I paid for. I would not buy them again. I have switched to softwood pellets and will never go back to hardwood. Love the heat output and minimal amount of ash produced.

You're lucky, I paid $275 a ton. However, With all of the extra cleaning I had to do while using these pellets I would not buy them at $99 a ton.

I had the same problems. Some long pellets that clogged my chute, and, in my opinion, too much ash. Didnt care much for them, but it was only our second seaseon with the stove and only had the previous years pellets to compare to which were Armstrongs.

I seen some PA pellets that my neighbor bought for 270 a ton (rip off). We opened a bag and there they were in all there glory long azz pellets some over 2" and at the bottom of the bag fines and the fines filled a 1quart container. These pellets are junk and who cares about a exchange if you have to load them up and take them back.. This guy bought the same garbage pellets last year but the dealer told him they had there stuff together and were a much better pellet. I seen them they are bad. Also 4 bags in the cente of the pallet were sawdust due to them being wet while theye were loaded on the pallet, go figure that one out.
Thanks for the input. Like I said, customers have been loving these pellets so far for the most part, so I have been nervous about switching. I may reconsider though based on the feedback I'm getting here. Thats the great thing about the forum.
