I caved. I came home with the wife and the house dropped to 53. The last few days of clouds and rain did us in. She still didn't want to light it but I overruled. She won't admit it, but she's happy the house is warm.

Almost went for it last night, but held off. Moved a bunch of wood to the back porch and loaded the woodbox inside yesterday. The stove is all loaded, and ready to light, but it wasn't quite cold enough. Now it looks like we're going to get a bit warmer for the coming week, so I might wait a bit yet.

Where are you located? Because, over by me the next three days are highs of 41* and lows in the mid 30s.

I think you guys holding off with house temps in the low 60's and 50's are a little crazy or more than a little masochistic. <G> Cold and rainy here and woke up to a cozy house of 73 (warmer than when I went to bed) with 3 inches of coals in the stove!

I've been burning every night for the last couple of weeks. I have the wood, I like burning it, and I like to be comfortable.

I'm a bit north, in the Lehigh Valley. The weather forecast changed a bit in the last day or so, and you had newer info that I did. Now it's supposed to be pretty chilly for a couple of days until it warms up mid-week. Soooooooooo, I lit the stove for the evening, and will probably burn it straight through for a couple of days. It's a real pleasure to watch the Oslo cook away happily, compared with the fiddling we had to do with the VC to keep it balanced between running hot and smoldering too much.

Still no fire in the hearth but the gas furnace has been keeping the place warm. It was going below freezing last week but now they are calling for freezing temps until Wednesday.

We have burning off and on since the 30th of Sept... My wife wanted my to wait until October... but I just had to see the dancing lights in the stove, plus I just love being very warm! We have to try to keep the house at moderate temp for my wife (72-76 max) otherwise see claims she can't breath well... The other item we can't do is burn Oak when she is home... she seems to be alergic to the Oak, so we burn mostly Pine, some Fir and Madrone for over night.

I cleaned the pellet stove a few weeks ago (pipes and all) and have fired it a few times just to spot heat when it's cold. The last 2 days have been a tad nippy in the northeast so I probably burned it 8 hours yesterday and the same today. I have 2 small children and don't want it to get too chilly for them otherwise I would have used it a bit less.
