Criagslist post, any idea what's going on here?

Rather than calculate volume as others have done (correctly), I was just estimating the size of the rack (wrongly). If I had gone down the volume route I knew I would have found myself looking at the spacing and stacking....
 
My guess is that these are cutoffs from baseball bat blanks (yes, they make 'em from maple - those are the bats you see shatter, ash bats generally crack). when I was a kid there was a mill near my uncle's farm that dried and made ash blanks for Louisville Slugger. He had a deal with the mill's owner and we used to get the things by the truckload for FREE. Burned great, I still remember that stuff.
 
Baseball bat seems most probable, based on the width dimension of those blanks, but not discounting the various dimensions of bowling pins. If I ever stop scrounging, I might find out for sure.
 
Oh man what a bargin.....that's pure hardwood, not that watered down hardwood we get here in michigan. That's a heck of a deal!!


I wonder if he takes trading stamps????????
