Will this work for Stovetop Thermometer?

That's great. I use the same one and the ranges of normal/under/over actually work real well with the soapstone.

Place the meter on the stove as directed in the manual and don't slide it around which may scratch the stove.

I have the same one, however when you get this set you oven temp to 450 and check the accuracy by placing the thermometer in the oven and check. Hogwildz gave me this idea and my thermometer was 152 degrees off Be safe and get 2 if you get 1.

It won't scratch the stove if you just set it there. Just don't go scrubbing the stove with it. I wouldn't add anything between the meter and the stove for fear of insulating the meter and throwing off the reading.

I have one very similar but with a screw hole in the center. It is attached to the stovepipe about 6" from the furnace. Seems to work quite nicely.

I use the same thermometer on the upstairs liberty, Just a word of note, if it ever seems that the stove is hotter than what the reading is, jiggle the needle a tad. Seems mine likes to get stuck around 350 on the way up, but not on the way down. And no, it dosent seem to be dragging on anything, the inner windings of the coil expand against next coil and then the needle stops movin. other than that works good. easy to read.

I have not had good luck with that thermometer. I went through 2 of them last year. I used mine as a stove top thermometer and the needle would always get stuck on it. I picked up one of these thermometers, the medallion, at my local stove shop from recommendations from the forum. http://www.condar.com/stove_top_meters.html Would have like to got the inferno one but they didn't have it. The inferno looks real nice. I wouldn't want that medallion. I need more numbers than that. The condar probe meter I own is of higher quality than the rutland meter I also own, the company actually answers questions too. You can order meters directly from their website. Maybe it's time for me to look at another meter, the rutland has a few chips on the edge.

I agree the inferno does give you more info and good looking for a thermometer. I like how the medallion is mostly black. From the other side of the room you don't even see it on the stove.

it is better to buy two of them so if they says diferent temps and you have only two, which one would you trust???

I agree with the concerns about the Rutland thermometers. The ones I had would develop friction inside and then stick. The Condor units work very well.

Seemed to have missed this thread before starting this; https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/44160/, all 4 of my rutlands ended up having sticking needles.

For the cheap route - I got 4 oven thermometers ($4.50 ea) from wally world - snip off base and place on stove top or hang on stove pipe with crafting wire. When temps are compared in smae location, they are all within 50 deg F of each other.
