Was outside messing around on the tractor when my wife called and said it was a little chilly in the house.... now she has never taken an interest in the wood stove, a PE Summit, aside from standing next to it to get warm. told her to toss a few splits in the box, and set the air control half way between high and low. an hour later i walk in and the house is 85 degrees and she has the windows open. so now after a little instruction using the thermometer on the stove and the air control she is ready to run the beast. i am now afraid the 7 cords will not be enough!!!!!!!
 
Short term curse, long tem blessing. Let us know in a couple of weeks how your supply is holding out...and how the instruction is going ;-)

A real blessing when the wife takes an interest in the stove. A real blessing when you come in from working out in the cold and feel that wonderful wood heat. Give her a real treat when she learns how to run the stove completely.
 
She is getting the hang of it... We are heating almost 5000 sqft with it and she has managed to maintain 85 inside..... :eek:hh:

Just hope she does not burn herself.
 
it's a blessing. i've tried with no success. "when are coming home?" shortly, i'm almost done here. "ok". what's the matter? "it's getting cool in here". i come home 2 small splits inside. about 3 inches apart. in a stove with larger than 3 cube firebox that looks like popsicle sticks. and they have have been smoldering for hours the plate thermometer says under 200. and the firebox is black.
 
Blessing, my wife loves the wood stove but if it comes down to a cold house and me not coming home for a while the furnace gets turned on - she can work that!. Although personally I'm a little protective and possessive of my stove so maybe it is a blessing this way too?
 
Blessing . . . always better to come home to a house that is too warm rather than to come home to a house that is cold . . . or a house where the oil burner has been running.

To paraphrase the saying about teaching a man to fish. . . .

Load up a woodstove for a day, and you'll keep the spouse and family warm for hours.
Teach your spouse how to use the woodstove, and you'll keep everyone in the family warm for the entire winter.

My buddies on occasion have busted my chops for the size of the firewood that I cut.

However, my wife has no problem putting them little pieces into the stove when I happen to meet a buddy after work for a few :)

No need for me to rush home!

My wife actually likes to start fires in the stove. A tilmes I wish she'd wait until I get home from work so I can play with fire! Oh well, I get to do the reload.
 
A blessing and a curse at the same time at my house. Wife likes to running and start the stove but also a bit cold blooded and lieks it hot in the house. I am kind of nervous about how much wood she has already burned.
 
She is getting pretty good at it.... Now I may be stretching it but..... If i could only get her to load up the bucket on the tractor to haul wood from the barn to the garage! At this rate I do not think that 7 cords is going to get us through the winter......

i think if i had that problem i'd let her have at it with the maul. just to show some appreciation for splitting.
 
Blessings, for me
To my compete surprise, my wife got the fire starting and loading down the first year we had the stove. She doesn't sleep well, so when the stove needs to eat 3AM I sleep right thru it.
