Chimney sweep rods

When we last had a pro sweep our chimney I was impressed with the rods he used. The rods were very flexible, about 1" in diameter, and had a 'click connect'. Anyone know where to get rods like that???

The last time we had a pro sweep our fireplace chimeny he showed me how easily his rods flexed if we wanted to do a bottom up sweep. I am getting older and am looking for easier ways to sweep our chimney. By the way, pro sweeps charge around $250 in our area. Having a pro sweep our chimney twice per season kind of negates the savings of burning wood. Plus, since hubby can't get up on the roof, our adult kids are having a fit just thinking about Mom getting up on the roof. Of course the kids don't voluteer to do chimney cleaning either! Just getting the kids out here to clean out gutters is a pain in the neck.

Any tips on where to locate these really flexible 1" hollow rods with 'click connect' would be greatly appreciated!

If you still had the sweep's number, maybe call him and ask?
 
I did ask him. He had no idea, that's why I came here to ask.

Try calling an Electrical supply store or contractor,,they fish a lot of conduits commercially and may have some idea of where to purchase those type rods

I'm not seeing any quick connect rods there but that Viper system looks cool.

Shari,,those rods do appear to be the cats meow,,they r pricey enough as a twist rod, i would hate too see the quick connect prices

See if they dont have some solid rods with spikes,,for use on the "grown" KIDS

Thanks for the link but I'm not seeing the quick-connect rods there. Also, the sweeps rods were at least 1" dia., maybe even 1-1/4" dia. Off course his rods were black or at least a very dark grey but that could just have been dirt. :)

Considering $250 a pop to have a pro out here just to sweep the chimney I guess I'm not too worried about whatever price I'd have to pay to get similar rods.

I did look at the grey electrical (pvc?) pipe at Home depot. That electrical pvc flexes but not as much as what our sweep used.

These are quick connect and flexible too... These would pay for themselves very quickly why would you want to use a lesser tool when this will do the job as good as a sweep and pay for itself so fast? I use the thread together rods and sweep from the top down once a year.. Maybe I will consider these flexible rods someday however I would still need to go on the roof to clean the SS cap..

I didn't realize that product was quick-connect. Thanks!

I realize the cap will still have to be cleaned. I figure if I ask one of our sons to do at least that part of the cleaning if I start asking them in October they might get it done by January - should work out just about right. :)

$250 a pop??? Holy Smokes!!!
For that price I would buy one of the Handy viper systems. at $449.95 for the rod thingy and $29.95 for the brush for a total of $479.90 it would not take but 2 uses to be a little past the break even point. It seams to be very flexible and at 50' it should be long enough.

You're welcome.. When considering payback I try to factor in using tools of similar quality and from what you're paying I would buy those tools in a heartbeat.. I spend about an hr. cleaning the chimney.. The stove flue pipe is much more work as I have to move my stove and it is at least 400 lbs... I got about 1/2 large paper grocery store bag worth of creosotesoot after a year of burning... I burn 24/7 mostly oak and last yr. I used about 2 1/2 cords of wood.. Please let us know what you buy and let us know how it performs...
