Is this insert adapter right-side-up or up-side-down?

I think it's supposed to go on this way since the three fastening holes line-up with the ones on the stove. But I want to make sure first.

It is a really tight fit and once I tap it down, I'm positive I won't be able to get it off to redo.

Note, inside the SS adapter is a black collar. In this position, the black collar snugs the inside of the insert and the SS snugs around the outside of the insert.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm a rookie here but It looks to be upside down. The male end should always face downward into the female end. This applies to the entire chimney system including the stove connection.. In that configuration you run the risk of creosote leaking out onto the stove and causing at the least a smelly mess and at worst a fire..

Thanks for the ideas.

Do you guys realize that there is a metal collar (male fitting) inside the adapter that is pointed down into the stove in that photo? You can sort of see the male inner fitting in the photo (it's black).

In other words, the adapter on one end has both male and female adapters that fit to either the stove or the pipe.

Just want to clarify... thanks again,
Jim

Correct, it is upside down. That inner sleeve is to go on the inside of the liner to sandwich the liner when you insert those three screws. The adapter needs to slide into your stove collar.
