Thanks Guys

I have two open stair well. The floor plan is not a real open lay out. If I can keep the main floor area heated and the upper level in the 50 degree range I would be happy. I could zone heat the bedroom with electric heat. The bedroom would be above the wood stove.

I have a house half the size of yours and I can heat it with a quad 4100 insert. Remmember heat rises, I have to keep the doors to the bedrooms upstairs closed or else you couldn't sleep in them. So that means the stairwell heats up and the heat will build down now and I have two small doorway fans I bought from plow & hearth one from the living room (with the stove) to the dinning room and one from the dinning room to the kitchen. I can keep the dinning room and kitchen at around 68 to 70 both are on the north side of the house. I have a small cape 4 rooms down 2 bedrooms up and my thermostat for the furnace is in the hall in the center of the house heat never comes on while the stove is burning.

I don't burn 24 by 7 (only on weekends) and I can keep my cape pretty comfortable while stove is burning and I don't need large fires as the 4100i is a large stove for my house.

What kind of heating system is in the house now? Is it base board heat or forced hot air. If it is forced hot air you might what to also look at an add-on furnace. Though I must saw I know very little about add-on furnaces. You would have to go over to the Boiler Room forum to get more info. Home depot carries one made by Englander (Englanders are very popular on this site) that will heat 3000 sq ft and I saw one the other day for around $1400 if I remember correctly at my local HD. HD website has it listed for $1649 delivered.
