When is it going to get cold? I burned a little in early October, but that's it. Anyone got a clue, cause weather men don't. This 70deg stuff is for the birds. I'm done!

We are at 10F now and droping to 6F overnight. Send me up some of that hard wood you are not using right now if it will make you feel any better. :cheese:

In Ky its 60's during the day and low 40's at night. I'm not complaining about the "cool" nights and the warm days. In due time, it'll be cold.

The wife asked for a fire tonight, the first for this season. Weather guessers say it will go down to -7C overnight.

No fire yesterday but High of 52 and low of 35 today. Lit up this AM and then fed the coals tonight. First time in a long time to go to bed with an active cat - looking forward to starting in the AM from coals. Looking at forecast highs in the 50's for next couple days then down to mid 40's so I wonder if I'm about to go 24/7 for a stretch.

Not exactly stuffing the stove for these days, more like loose piles in there so I can leave it alone as long as possible and just have enough coals to get it going again, but still sure saves on the kindling. I am wondering what January will be like - just how many times will I have to fill the stove etc.

Heading down to the mid 20's tonight. The Isle Royale is on cruise control.

We got home from work yesterday, 69 in the house, mid 50s outside. Got some coals going and at 7pm threw 3 medium logs into the Mansfield. At midnight, inside, 79 degrees, at 3:30, 76 degrees and now, 5 am, it's 75 degrees with 40 outside. Not really cold weather here, but having to feed the stove only once is nice. Tonight is supposed to be down in the 30s.

Nina

Yesterday I was out splitting wood in shorts only...love the mild weather. Got a fire burning now though.

Looks like we're 2 weeks out until it gets "cold".

It's pretty nice, though. Right now, the furnace kicks on in the morning and takes the house from ~64F to 69F (programmable thermostat). It shuts off, then the sun comes out and the house will gain heat throughout the day and generally get up to 71F (a combination of the sun and the wife and kid running all kinds of lights and other electrical stuff). The house holds its heat until it's time for bed, so really, the furnace is only running once or twice per day. My October gas bill was $40, which included hot water.

Here's my 15 day forecast from accuweather (however accurate the weather forecasters are past 2 days)...

This morning was 22°F. If last year is any indication, my weather station graph says we were on our way down right about now.

This is a joke, right? Enjoy your energy savings now; your day is coming :)

You know I was kinda just thinking about this. Currently (45F on its way to a 32F low tonight) its just cold enough to have a fire but by no means use your good firewood. I just reloaded my stove, and some of the firewood is almost garbage looking. Its boardline punky (but dry) and very small splits, odd shapes, has some fungus on it, but even with all that my stovetop is at 600F air control at zero, secondary burn going like crazy and my house is a little shy of 70F. personally I find the shoulder season almost more rewarding. cause you know when you stacked your firewood last year said "man is this little punky half moldy piece of wood even worth it?" and look what just a few of those pieces can do.

I guess it is kind of a joke. Just making conversation and curious about weather in other parts of the country. I love the need to burn wood. Been doing it for 25 years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

I know, and I was just funnin' with you too. I've got tons of wood in my yard, and looking forward to a little bit cooler weather. I think it's coming this week around here.
