....to be more careful not to get stove burns this season? I do! This past July, I actually had a browser in my shop spy my wrist stripe scar from last season and ask me flat out why I tried to commit suicide. . . .

And the proper reply to this would be . . . "I couldn't live life any more if I had to continue to pay those ridiculous prices for heating oil last year so I decided to deal with it the only way I could . . . I bought a woodstove." ;) :)

My mom bought me an "ove glove". Works real well and haven't been burned yet in my first year of burning.

Echoing . . . ditch the oven glove . . . go with a real he-man glove like a welding glove . . . better protection with the leather, better fore-arm protection and you'll lok more manly with welding gloves on instead of an oven mitt. ;) :)

Fortunate enough to be a firefighter. Therefore I have access to spare firefighting gloves - they work great.

Firefighter gloves are OK, but I still prefer the welding gloves . . . better fore-arm protection . . . which is where I have my two burns . . . when I opted to not use any hand protection.

I think I'll stick with free and use the ove glove that I already have. It works for my situation. I dont reach far back into the stove, or at least I havent had to so far this year and dont expect too. I load NS and only need to be able to grab flamin logs that are near the door occasionally. Maybe when I become more complacent with the stove I will get burned and change my tune ;).

I therefore pledge that before the week is out I shall have purchased the requisite gloves and I shall hereby pledge to train myself, somehow, to wear them.

We have a pair of those long red suede gloves. They work great -the last time I tried to kill myself I could not get the razor through the leather at all.

My new (only) gloves were waiting for me in a box on the doorstep as I walked in tonight

I have a pair of welder's gloves and they really come in handy. I have a small firebox and with the gloves on I can reach into a (very) hot firebox and pack splits in really well when I re-load. I can grab of burning log with them if I need to. These gloves go up to my elbows and offer complete protection. I can't imagine loading without them.

Get burned at least twice a month. Nothing serious thankfully. The wife just got me a pair of gloves being the nurse that she is.

I can be confident that I'll get at least one little blister sometime this winter. It's just what happens when you are working around a hot device like this on a continuous basis.

With a one-liner like this I think it's safe to say you'll fit in really well here at hearth.com. :)

One liner? What do you mean?

oh, and I should add that the gloves also do a good job concealing the embarrassing tell-tale scars from previous attempts (and other mishaps) while adding a chic accessory to many outfits.

One-liner . . . a funny . . . a tongue-in-cheek bit o' humor.

I was amused.

Yeah, I know - boy, it's tough tryin to be a smart ass in a post - I should try to make use of the smileys I guess.

As in...
One liner? What do you mean? ;-) :)

Those don't quite satisfy though - I'd like one that is more smirking.

Speaking of this, I just burned myself on my forearm. Where were the gloves? Right next to the stove. Why didn't I wear them? I thought to myself, "I'll just be careful so I don't have to wear the gloves". Lol

Didn't BB get one on the chin or forehead? Wish I could find that thread

I haven't burned anything except my left thumb, which happens when I try and shut the left door on the Isle Royale when it's really hot. Why they built that thing with no way to shut that side without finding a stick of wood or pulling a sleeve down as a heat pad is beyond me. Yeah, yeah, I've got the welding gloves, but you actually expect me to wear them? LOL!

In 18 yrs. without ever wearing gloves I've never zapped myself with the stove. This will probably be the year, lol. Sure, I've had that immediate jerk your hand away moment but nothing that left a real burn or blister.

Probably long overdue, huh?

I'd wear welding gloves...but I like to keep that crisp red "just stayed out in the sun a little to long" look going on my forewarms all winter.
