Galvalume is the outer liner of the double wall insulated rigid. Its fine as an outer wall. And Galvanized is also fine for lower block off plate. Most upper plates are S.S.

Correction:

The Selkirk Versa Liner (it comes in both rigid or flex) is:

Rigid - 0.016 Type 304 SS
Flex - 316L Stainless

Earlier in the thread I wrote that the Flex was 304L. That was incorrect.

That selkirk rigid is pretty lightweight stuff, we use .025 which is 24 guage, their using .016 which is like a 27 gauge

I have seen welded liners come apart as well... it's just like condoms the reason they say their 99% effective is because every manufacturing process can incur problems.

I used Ventinox because it was the only one that I could find that had a welded seam and not crimped. Too many times I have seen people wrestling with the crimped liner only to have it come apart....

Obviously in the best interest of your company to make the above statement. Simply letting folks know that you cannot bend a crimped liner like you can a welded liner. For difficult roofs like mine I did not want to do it twice. I watched two neighbors using ebay kits do it twice because the first attempt resulted in separated liners.

If a crimped liner is made correctly it can do anything a welded liner, just as a welded liner made incorrectly cannot due what a crimped one can. It is simply how it is manufactured.

But the extend-a-cap is for round pipe only right? So your last section of liner is oval-to-round? Did this fit in the clay flue ok?

No, they make the extend-a-cap kit in oval also, so the pipe is the same all the way up.

If galvanized can be used for lower block off plates can someone explain why it couldn't it be used for chimney liner pipe itself? Thank you

Steer clear of Rockford, unless you dig a bait and switch!

Again, what was the negative experience with Rockford? Anybody else here ever deal with Rockford? It's Rockford Chimney Supply, right? They are within 25 miles of my house, and I was thinking it could be convenient for me to get the liner, insulation and other parts there.

Maybe some have had problems but I ordered on line and installed myself and I have been very happy with my liner. I used Rockford Chimney supply. The product seemed to be very good quality

I was just reviewing this thread from last year and saw that someone had raised questions about Rockford liner. I installed a Rockford 316ti SS liner a year ago. The components appeared to be quality components. A few of them had "Forever Flex" labels on them. But it did not bother me as long as they were quality components. I upgraded the top plate that fits on the top of the chimney per the Rockford rep's recommendation. It was a few dollars more, but it is very sturdy and fits very securely over the chimney. The chimney cap has a nice wind guard and seems to work fine in windy conditions. I did my own install as well. I am a happy customer and would say that Rockford delivered as described and provided good customer service on the phone. I don't like to see questions of a company's reputation without any real statement that there is any deficiencies in the product.
