Hi All...I just registered and it looks like my kind place. I'm 62 and we outnumber the younger guys because we have more time to sit at the keyboard while waiting for the checks to come in the mail 
. I think it also has something to do with having the wisdom to use alternate fuels.

Yup, The fact that pellets are considerably easier and less work than cordwood might have something to do with why most folks here are older.
I had no problems years ago stacking my 4 cords of wood and handling each piece 4 different times and that don`t include the ash removal.

My thoughts exactly. I humped in wood for 23 years and one of the best moves I ever made was to get a pellet stove.
I will be closer to 60 then 50 in 9 days (56)
Have 8 kids and 7 grandchildren. Too busy to carry in wood anymore.

Ya know, reading these posts rang a bell. I too, heated with wood back in the 80's. I bought a house where the furnace was disconnected and sitting in the middle of the garage. I didn't pout one in until I put the house up for sale. I bought log length and cut and split 5 to 6 cord a year. Gave up wood 15 years ago but I missed the heat and the comfort of watching the fire burn. (Didn't miss all the work!) The pellet stove just seemed like the best of both worlds.
It's funny, I still don't have the furnace in this house plumbed in yet. I really should do it just in case.
By the way, I'm 55

62 and the pellet stove I bought on clearance year before last is still on the pallet waiting for that 12 cords of woods out back to run out in three years.

you laugh, at work all of our paperwork (and there is a ton of it in aviation) is done on computer (easier storage) and we have to do it ALL IN CAPS AS SOME PEOPLE IN THE PAPERWORK CHAIN CAN'T READ lower case off the monitor anymore. Makes it fun when you try to respond to email or on the hearth and you are shouting at everyone until you catch it and rewrite it.ShaneR34 said:

Well, on the 22 of December, will be 69.......Yes, the magic number, but too old to do anything about it

Hum, all this age stuff. Don't know what that really relates to except to expect some rationing in your health care options. So, now that I am "mostly" retired, I have invested in myself. Lost 70 pounds and now go the gym for an hour work out 4 times a week. I feel better than I did 15 years ago. I enjoy the pellet stove. I don't get the heat I did when I burned wood, but for the most part, that is OK. I wasn't able to have the wood stove in the living area like I do with the pellet stove. That stove gives us so much pleasure. We get the stove going, and have wide screen TV next to it. Only now, instead of TV shows we have the new Wii Fit. Lots of activity there. So being 60++ is really not so relevant. How old you think and behave are better indicators of age.
