The school where I teach has a sister nursery school (kindergarten) in the foothills of a local mountain with lots of cherry trees cut down and doing nothing. I was told to take as much as I want. I bought a chainsaw and this is the first load:

It is mostly cherry and will be stacked tomorrow, just as soon as I can clear some space for it. There is loads of the stuff and I will be visiting the nursery school every weekend until I get a few cords for next year. I must chop it up now.

This is my saw, an Echo GS35A, which cut up the logs with ease:

Nice score. I'd be headed there every day after school.

Very nice looking stuff!! I would imagine firewood is a commodity there...

What a great find! That wood will smell really nicely when burned.

How cold does it get where you are in the winter?

Keep some for the fireplace if you have one. get as much as you can cherry will store well for several years

Oohh, cherry advice, thanks for that. I think I snagged about 1/10th or 1/15th of it today.

It does get pretty cold here. Mid-winter highs or about 4/5C (40F) and below freezing most nights. We only get a few days snow every year but that doesn't stop people putting snow tyres on their road cars.

Firewood is expensive so I'm glad of the free wood!

Excellent! Cherry is my favorite firewood.

Not the highest BTU's, but I will agree! I love everything about cherry. Smell, color, ease to split, etc.

when you see wavy cut patterns usually means rakers are to hi

Welcome to the board, and what a great find. That wood will make you happy and warm. There is nothing like sitting by a warm fire on a cold night. I also like cherry for firewood.

Hi Smokinjay,

If there are adjustments I need to make on the chainsaw or in my technique for sawing please explain further. It is a brand new saw with new chain and, I assume, set up how it should be. Could it be that Japanese chains are slightly different to those in the US? Let me know before I get back out with it on Monday (national holiday here).

Nice score bro!!
Feels good don't it.

Rakers can be filed or ground with a dremal. You will need a raker guage that matche the chain. I use the file method.
