Is it normal for inserts to have a pop and crack soundas they heat up? It does the same sound every time if I let it cool or warm up. Cannot find any cracked welds or anything at this time. Just not sure if it is a normal sound or not, any input is appreciated.

mine stove pops and cracks like crazy heating up fast or cooling down fast. Not so much if you are doing a slow change

I'd say yes, not hearing your particular 'crack' and 'pop'. As the metal temperature changes the components move against each other and make rattling and creaking noises kind of like an audible thermometer.

Same here,,,my stove cracks and pops when its heating up quick. I figure its kinda like a secondary alarm clock. Even the kids tell me, "dad, the stoves makin noise". That way I know to check it again, and again. My wife thinks I'm nuts cause I'm always checkin something on the stove.

Any stove with metal in it will snap and pop as it warms up or cools down . . . more noticeable on faster cooling or heating cycles.

My first year the insert made a lot of pops and pings while warming up. Now (4th year) it seldom makes them.
Nobody ever believes me but with a steel stove or insert if you make sure it is level all the way around it reduces the amount and volume of the snaps, crackles and pops as the stove heats up and cools down. Doesn't get rid of them but reduces them.
