not sure if this is a normal trait for these stoves but my glass gets a black soot build up on the right side after about 2-3 hours of run time. it does it faster on higher heat settings it also seems like my fire is kind of lazy on the right side also. i have replaced my burn pot gasket as per the suggestion of englander and perfored the flame test around the door and glass to look for leaks but found nothing. am i being fussy or does this really sound like a problem?

i get the same on my 25-pdv but not after a couple hours as you mentioned, i'd say 10/12 hours or so...

I guess that I want to ask the usual question " when was the last COMPLETE cleaning on this stove?" ....and I don't just mean empty the burnpot & vacuum the firebox.....I mean EVERYTHING (ash traps, blowers, pipes, etc).

i forgot to mention that i have tried about 6 different brands of pellets some are worse than others but they all do it. and also this has been an issue since the stove was new back in febuary this year and i did a full cleaning about a month ago including the leaf blower trick. i have an oak installed and i bought the vent pipe kit and installed it exactly as the intructions said. it's just weird how the fire is lazy only on the right side i'll try to get a picture and post it on here so you guys can see what i'm talking about

I guess based on your 1st post that you've spoken to Mike H. or one of the factory techs about this.....have you called them back & reported what changed, if anything?

I don't have this model stove but I think black glass pretty well goes with the territory. It's easy to clean it off so don't sweat it.

These stoves do this but not as quick as you say What heat setting are you on? 1/1 2/2 3/3 etc etc
Bottom factory preset buttons what are they at 6/4/1 is factory for mine (2008) model
you can change the bottom settings like to 5/4/1 or 6/5/1 but that only works on heat setting 1 and 2, anything above factory default's rule 6/4/1 are you using a outside fresh air supply.
How old is stove? when did you last clean the exhaust blower fan blades since the gum up with soot after about a ton of pellets.
you will figure it out good luck.

I get the same glass problems but generally after 10 or so hours with how I normally run it , the right side is definatley more active for me , I have my stove set to 5-4-1 and mostly run it heat setting 2 blower 3.. I have noticed on higher settings it does happen faster. I have just recently cleaned it fairly well, vac'd ever thing out inside removing all plates and replacing the pot gasket. Instead of doing the leaf blower I hooked up my dust collection system from the shop, sucked out some ash but not as much as I was thinking I would get. I do vac everywhere once or twice a week, run a pellet vent brush down the vent every 2 or 3 weeks. Just got a new blower gasket so I think I may take that apart this weekend and see what I find. would love to hear the outcome.... it does clean up easy though with a damp paper towel....

I get black on the right side also. I don't think it's a problem. I use a wet paper towel.
Not sure if it's connected but I also get more carbon buildup on the bottom right of the auger tube. Maybe the way it flows?

I usually do a shutdown daily and then clean the glass/burnpot, what do you guys do ?

Pretty much the same as you, shutdown daily and then clean the glass/burnpot
Sometimes I will do 36 or 48 hour burn But that involves an occasional quick ash clean out with stove running

so it seems like what i am talking about is normal operation if alot of you guys who have this stove get the same build up. i love this little stove it gets plenty hot and keeps most of my home warm with a little creative air circulation

Sometimes when I do a serious cleaning I use a damp paper towel. Make sure the glas is completly cooled of it could get ugly fast.
I get more when running mine at the low settings. Havent had to bump it up yet due to warmer weather so far.

With this weather in the low 40"s and burning Curran pellets (they burn hotter than the penningtons I used last year) the stove was baking us out of the house even on setting 1/2 and 1/1 with low burn settings at 5/4/1 so tweaked it down to 4/4/1 and still plenty of heat.
