Fake logs for AE

I have a Mt Vernon, not a AE, and we don't use ours. They are nice to look at but thats about all. It is a real pain to clean the stove with them in. You have to either brush them off while they are in the stove or provide something to set them on after you take them out. They really get coated with ash and I think that is why they get broken as owners try to knock the ash out/off of them. I wouldn't waste my money on them. If you do a search there are a lot of people that have the same experience. A number of people have offered them for free if you pay the shipping.

I was told the same by my dealer, and as much as I thought I would want them, I enjoy my stove without them.

Beginning of my first season with using them in my AE, and the are already starting to fall apart. I used non Quardrafire logs in my Castile and they lasted a lot longer.

gblaue I heard the same from my dealer that the Quad fake logs weren't very good. What non Quads worked in your Castile? You say they lasted longer. Are they still working?

I stopped offering them after the first 20 or so I sold. people would want new ones under warantee because the broke.
and IMO they cause more harm. the flame hitting the logs cause more soot and glass to get dirty
then you have to remove (all covered with ash and make a mess) them before you can clean the burn pot so it will cause some people to not clean out the burn pot as often.

I have them in both my stoves and yep they are a PITA to clean. This is one of those 'please the missus' things........ They sure look pretty but.................. When they break, they are GONE! I do make pottery as a hobby so I might make something to replace them some day...... some day.....

Yeah we tell people the same thing. Yet they still buy them....

We also inform people they have NO warranty on them (which is true). Otherwise, as hearthtools said, they all come back wanting new logs for free.

Nocar, as for having them in the stove while it's burning, they are a PIA when it comes time to clean it.

Save the log set for the summer when the stove isn't being burned...it adds a nice touch when the stove & glass is clean.

Macman, why is your piggy pic looking stretched? Trying to look bigger? Just wondering.

We have fake logs but they aren't Quad logs. That is what our dealer sold us. I guess they knew about the problems too.
Sorry, I don't know what brand they are.

I don't know what the knockoff brand that the dealer sold me with my Castile. I sold my Castile back in June with the logs. They were starting to "disintegrate", but probably should last another couple of seasons in addition to the 2 that burnt with them. As for the AE, they are original Quadrafire logs, and after burning a 1/2 ton so far they are breaking apart. Hopefully someone will come out with a better set of logs.

Now THAT'S a good idea. Gotta work on the wife with that thought.

I have the Quad logset....this is my third season with them. Taking care not to bang them etc is key. Mine are not cracked or chipped at all. I like them.
