cutting firewood

Does each picture show a different pile of wood? I think there are more than a cord in the first pic, and more than two in each of the second and third pic, so that's five cords. Just a guess, that is. I see several types of wood in the piles, some Black Cherry (big rounds on the ground in the first pic), some Red Maple, I think, and the stuff iwth thick bark could be oak. I'd say you're well on your way to being years ahead.

Herman, good to hear you are back to burning wood. I can't tell by the pictures what you have there but can tell you that you can easily figure how much wood you have. A cord is 128 cu. in. That is, a stack 4' high, 4' deep and 8' long (so multiply 4 x 4 x 8). So just measure those 3, multiply and divide by 128 and you will know exactly what you have.

This might be a bit easier, since you can go by inches.

Herman did you buy your wood before or just start burning again?

Herman, you will like that splitter. Ours is basically the same splitter only in 20 ton and we've had it for several years, trouble free.

When i go back out i`ll merasure the pile & get a idea of how much wood there is.

Very nice splitter Herman and that trailer just needs some paint... It's not about show it's about go! I estimate 3-4 cords but I may be wrong as the others have said you need to measure to determine cordage correctly.. Looks like some decent ready to burn stuff in that pile.. Welcome back to burning I dropped it for a few years and came back when oil went to $4.00 per gallon and never looked back! I too enjoy being outdoors and the independent feeling burning gives me...
