Good luck with the surgery.

I will have one more day,Friday, to cut and finish a big cottonwood project before I go get my knee repaired again. I had 4 big ol cottonwoods to drop and cut, only 1 left and it goes friday. Then wait till 12-11 and get my knee o/h again. I tore the ACL off and dinged up the cartilage, bummer. I have heard that this is not much fun. I ahd the thing repaired, just a meniscucal fix and a clean out in Feb of this year, it was nothing. I got a bad feeling about this though. I will have at least one good day out cutting before then though and I can check it off of my list. We have harvested about 10 cords of dry, white standing cottonwood so far and there is about 3 left to get. My Blaze King, Kings love the stuff. Happy Thankgiving to all!!

I hope everything goes well and you have a quick recovery.

I think that my keyboad must have a code, or it is the one that Elmer Fudd uses

Hey Pondman
Hows it going, ready to go cut wood yet?

That is the second aspect of having surgery to repair stuff, like knees. What kind of patient we will be. At least you recognize the grouchy and short temperament. People have rung in on being religious about the PT and I can attest to that. My wife has had 5 total joint replacements (2 shoulder, 2 hips, 1 knee, plus is a liver transplant... recovery is something she has learned. PT is as people have said, primo critical. And... saying 'thank you' as many times as one can, through the pain, the anxiety, through the frustration, will go a loooooong way with everyone around. You sound like you have a super family so we will expect great things soon. As in, recovery.

I am jealous of you Blaze Kingers out there. Have a Napoleon which is ok. Eats a bit more wood than I would like, as these genre of stoves do, but have learned how to drive it through -20 weather and get reasonable burns out of it. But the BK is at the top of my wish list.

Hey Pondman
Good luck with leg eh? Hurt much???? I am getting scared, I can tell because I am getting grouchy and short with everyone...UGH
I went and did my 36" dbh today, got it down , my dad#2, 30 year logger, tree trimmer, lineman, general wood nut was right there as I dropped it, I asked if he would like the honor, he said nope, get it down. The sun was once again shining on me, I cut a "perfect wedge" he knocked it out with 1 swing of the ax, gave me the confident, yet surprised, head nod, we talked a second about the back cut, I explained where I was going to cut it and why, he said that outa work, man it was perfecto!!!! I still get pretty pumped up and I dont even try to hide it when the big wood goes down. My 36" bar would just peek through the other side. These trees there were 4 in a clump were monsters, no bark, solid hard cottonwood, the kind that just goes klink when I stack it. I got a 4 horse trailer loaded up good and called it a day. I will have to go back out and finish the big stuff, it is all cut to length, just need to 1/4 it and load it. I can then check this off my list before the knee fix. How long did the surgery last? Dr told me that he will use my hamstring for the repair as I am an auto detailer by trade and spend a fair amount of time on my knees, kinda like being married.
I hope that in 3 weeks it will be good to go, not a lot of choice. I am going to cut up and split a whole bunch of cedar siding for kindling, scary that my house has some of this on it, burns like gun powder. Split and fill everything, I am thinking "nighters" for most of the wood that I stack and my best maple that I have been saving for special times. I am wanting long long burns so that I can chill out for a few days. I keep telling myself, 41, not 21 any more.

Wow dhriii
yer wife has been through a ton, not sure if I could endure all of that. My brother is a double lung recipiant, doing well 3.5 yrs out. This knee thing is freaking me out. You know the worst case scenero monster comes lurking in the night. I am 41, I snould be able to man up to this but..... inside holy buckets......what if what if what if what if.... you know the one. oh yeah I forgot how long how long how long how long..... I got to get a bunch done, got 1 weekend left, still have to go to the mtn and get a Christmas tree.
Heres to you guys.

Aw, you will do fine. It involves that screwy combination of patience and impatience. But you'll do great. Will expect to hear great things in a few weeks.

Ya, my wife has been through the mill several times too many. Toughest SOB I've ever known.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery!! Remember, patience is a virtue............and the more patience you can muster up the better your recovery!
I am nearing the stage of knee replacement myself. My Doc wants me to wait though stating that with the active lifestyle I have I would probably wear it out in 10 years or so and be looking at another one...so I am also trying to be patient!! Maybe they will come up with something even better in the meantime.

Just thought I would share a funny moment during my recovery of a knee cartilage operation when I was 16(many moons ago!!). Back then the surgery was much more invasive and the recovery even more an ordeal than it is today. In PT I was trying to lift a 2.5 lb weight and nurse Krachet was all over me for not trying hard enough....so I give my ALL during a silent moment in the PT room and I managed to let a loud fart rip!! I turned 3 shades of red in my embarresment but at least Krachet finally realized I really was giving it my all! Thinking about that still makes me smile today.

Good story about PT. I'll be going in for my second session later today. I'll think I'll stick to grunting when doing the exercises.
I've made some damatic improvement in the last couple of days--kinda like the person who goes on a diet & drops a few pounds right away. Nowhere near doing anything like physical work; but I have cheated a little on using my crutches--sure is nice.

take a vacation, sit in a recliner by the fire, drink a beer, milk the sympathy.

I had my first knee surgery in ummm, lets see, 1998. during recovery developed a stress fracture at the site of a screw from 1st knee surgery. Completed that stress fracture and had a clean break in the tibia (that would have been early spring '99). About a year ago I started really feeling like I was healed up pretty nicely. That leg will never be the same, but at least that knee doesn't tend to hurt as much as it did pre 98. I'm 32 now, so I can only imagine having that serious of an injury at my current or later age. I was a collegiate athlete at the time, so i had lots of support from trainers and physical therapy. I eventually gave up and felt like it wasn't helping. years later I realized I was pretty depressed because of it all and probably only hurt myself by not doing everything the Physical Terrorists told me to do.

Point of the story is to do your PT, and remember that even though PT hurts like a mother sometimes, it's better to get the big pain out of the way now instead of having annoying ongoing pain for years and years afterwards.

Again guys, thanks so much for the support. I talked toa guy that used to work with the surgeon that will fix my knee, me had good things to say.
Pondman.... glad to hear that you are "human" again. I just can not imagine not working, thats what I do. I guess I will sit and stare and the mountain of cottonwood out the window.
Have I mentioned how much I like my blaze king???? LOL Sure is toast in here, we were -2 this am.
In 9 days is the big knee day, thats about 215 hours.... not tht I am counting

Personally, I think PT is beyond imperative. The good therapists, the trained ones, really are worth their weight in gold. I have seen outcomes that go very well when protocols are followed. And when they aren't, the outcomes tend to be not so good. I hope everyone who is undergoing procedures turns their necessary PT into a religion, because it does bear fruit.
