Man.... -2 outside already, thought I should clean out the stove a bit after all of the hours of 300-325 degree stove temps of just keeping it nice inside. I turned it all the way to 3, out of six mind you, for about 1.5 hours, top of stove is 600, house is 85.4 degrees. Have I ever mentioned that I love my blaze king. I should have the entire house hot soaked now, I will dial her back to idle and sleep good tonight. Too warm though, kinda cool to run up the temp though, just because I can.

I'm envious. My pre-EPA w/ mods. is keeping us at 72- with same outside temps. BKK next year! BTW, how's that thing work with our beetle-kill pine? What are your burn times- for a usable 300-350 stove top temp.?

I ran mine up to clean the glass and it must have been 90 in the room, I was walking around in my underwear. Its off tonight it was so warm today, send some of that cold air east so I can fire her up again.

Have used a Blaze king since 1982, good stove.
Just got a new catalytic, King. 2 weeks old.
Heating the house fine. Harder to add wood to but probably my learning curve.
Many stoves rate high but I was happy with the performance of the old one so when it was time to upgrade, I stayed with the King.
My wife says it's putting off more heat, & she likes the glass door, so there you go.

Mine is the pre cat model too. just the way I like it. I would not mind a cat stove, but not high on the list for sure. I will add secondary burn next year to this stove and run it. My house is toasty. I get 14-15 hour burns with a good load of beetle kill. I love those beetles for firewood makers. Nice dead standing stuff everywhere, not good to look at though, but in a 100 years it will beautiful again, enjoy the firewood. I maintain 350 very steadily, seems to be a real sweet spot for the stove. I have one in my shop as well, works great, both run 24/7 as primary heat. I mix in cottonwood and a bit of elm and russian olive for a tad more heat, as we are getting well below 0 now.Beetle-Kill said:

How do you think the secondary's will work with the T-Stat?
It's a great Idea and I hope it works for you but I think the T-Stat might hinder your secondary burns unless you can incorporate a separate air intake for the secondary's.
I think it might be easier to add a cat though.

i have thought about a cat, but my plan is to put a steel shelf near the top, and bring in a 3/4 ss tube, perforated, with its own source of air with a ball valve for a shut off, i will drill a hole through the box for this, simple, but might work, not out anything if it doesnt work. my concern is that a lot of time the stove is not hot enough for the secondary ignition to occur.

Yr right on there. They are really just a work horse, not a mustang. Not really pretty, but when when the job needs done, it is certainly the go to stove. I am not really sure of the btu rating of the ol girl, but it will warm the house faster than my 100k gas furnace.SolarAndWood said:

I am having good luck with my BK princess insert. Seems to keep my house warm and provides good burn times. You could burn this thing 24/7 if you wanted to, but I would run out of seasoned dry wood if I did. Try those supercedar fire starters to help with getting the cat into the Engaged zone. It only take a few minutes and its ready to start working.
I am very happy with Blaze King. If I had had any questions I e-mailed one of there guys and he responds. I would advise, from my experience, anyone to buy a BK insert or stove.

I'd say the ability to effortlessly burn 24/7 is one of the BK's best attributes. I don't know about the Princess, but with the King you can easily burn 24/7 while only reloading once or twice a day. Having the automatic stat also means you don't have to tinker around with the air throughout the burn cycle. This stove is great for loading it and walking away...
BTW, I love my BKK too!

The damper system on the Princess insert is alot different than the king or the princess stove. We have a big storm coming to the northern plains, with temps at or around 5 below with big winds a coming. We will then see if this insert can keep my house warm. I have a good feeling that it will.

Just wondering.... My buddy bought a BK insert an his blower is really quiet and doesnt push out the heat like I though it would. Is this common?
I know my Englander blower seems like its 2 to 3 times more cfms..??
