does anyone use their central air set to fan to move the air around the house?...my air intake is on the ceiling in the hallway upstairs and i thought if i set it to fan, its gonna pull the air from the stairs leading upstairs and circulate the heat throughout....i have an OAK installed, so will this be an issue with pressure?

Give it a whirl. Can't hurt to try it. May I suggest the lowest speed setting on the fan. If you push the air to fast you will actually cool it. Just like the cooling fans in the summer. Slow and steedy will be the ticket!

I have the same hemi, I tried a couple months back but didn't think it was making any difference at all, actually the air may be getting cool/cold since it is circulating through my air handler located in the attic (which is very cold) and you'll get then cool air coming out the vents/registers.
Try and see what you get.

I agree with Geek. Actually seemed to cool the air too much. I dont have the option to slow the fan down. Far as I can tell its only 1 speed. :long:

Feeling the Heat
My ducts have long runs through unheated spaces. I'll stick with convection, which works pretty well for me.

nah, you could quickly try just to see but I doubt it.
I ended up closing all registers on the 2 floors.
BTW - did you seal that big register opening in the staircase up there? I wonder if all the heat gets concentrated in the stairs would end up sucked up through the big return....

I'm waiting to try somewhat the same thing.
This house has a Heat Recover Ventilator, but one of the motors was dead when we moved in. I haven't got around to looking for a replacement yet, but I will soon and see how it works.
By the way, a couple people have mentioned fans cooling the air, this is false. Whether moving air slow or fast, doing so has no effect on air temperature. If it's it getting cooled, there is something else interacting with the air.

Mine doesn't have a filter in the big return because my air handler is one of the hepa electric air handlers that have some filters in there, is like a big metal casing with 4 thin filters inside.

I changed out my thermostat to one that has a clean air cycle, it turns the blower on for aprox 5 mins every 15 mins. The air does feel cool when it is running, but it does even out the heat in the house. Without it running I get some rooms are are real warm and some that are cooler. It also helps keep the dust down in the house since it is running the air through the filter. I have been using this for 2 years now a feel it helps a bit. Just keeps the air in the house moving a bit more.
