Flashing adhesive and high temp caulk

I'm installing my HI300 this weekend and I have a few questions.

I wondering what adhesive would work best to adhere my stainless flashing to the top of my 13" square clay chimney flue. One of the local dealers says they use plain silicone. Is this what I should use or is there something better? Also, is it possible to screw into the top of the clay chimney without it breaking.

When installing the block off plate, is there a recommendation for a high temp caulk to use around the perimeter? Do I caulk around the liner where it goes through the hole of the plate? If I do, wouldn't it be a PITA if I needed to pull the insert?

I'm planning on posting pics and comments of my install. Any input would be truly appreciated.

I used a quality caulk. It certainly doesn't get hot.

I started my flashing in the mortar line so I didn't drill. I wouldn't drill if I didn't have to. It's a good spot to let frost in and make chimney potholes.

Use the best possible product. You want no failure
of this seal. I like GE silicone products.
 
home depot got " henry caulk" its salty $8.00 but it will never leak if every thing is clean when you put it together.

Agreed. Water protection will be best if the cap has a liner collar and a flange bent down around the outside of the tile liner. Clean the surfaces thoroughly, blow away any dust. I like GE Silicone too. It holds well.
 
Rutland makes a 500 degree clear as well as a 600 degree super red silicone. Either will work. They are like $5 per tube at the orange box.
 
I've been down that road of being cheap and using less expensive caulks. It always ended in having to go back and do it again.

About 10 years ago I discovered 732 silicone sealant and adhesive. You can get it in clear, black, and white. Its very good and all I use, except for high temp applications. For that, I use Permatex or Loctite branded Ultra black, Ultra copper, or high temp red.
