He got mange...a painful skin disease caused by mites that makes the dogs skin itch, ooze, bleed and causes hair loss...hence "de-insulating" them.

My guess is, he's going to be pretty loyal to you and your family. I'd hate to be the guy who breaks into your house:)

Ah, quarantine... gotcha. Do it with the horses.

That's a pretty strange lookin' dog, Markd (looks like he'd get a sunburn). Sharpei and Pitbull? I sure don't understand how anyone could treat an animal that way, but we seem to do it with alarming frequency. Two points for you for "doing the right thing"; not sure I could "foster" anything. Once they're here, they don't go back to the pound. Every animal in our home used to be someone else's reject until they ended up here. You get out of them what you put into them, that's for sure.

Hope you'll post some shots of the new tack sometime, Dixie. You could bring it back around "on topic" by including a fire extinguisher in a saddle bag or a rifle holster on your saddle... (love Queen, lol)

Our latest reject has settled right in and made the transition to wood heat.

I had a 5 pound box of fatwood under the tree. Good thing because I'm running out of the cedar decking scraps I've been using for the last two years. I'm going to miss those cedar scraps though, just 2 or 3 small pieces and the fire is cranking in no time. Makes me a little nervous about having a my entire deck built out of it!

You should try using lathe (as in plaster and lathe), then you'd worry..

There is a special place in hell for people that abuse animals. Cheers to you for making the effort to save a canine life. Im sure that dog will follow you to the ends of the earth...

The people that abused that dog should be locked in a basement for a month!

I got a maul, a new fiskars, work gloves, 6" chimney brush, and one of those rubbermaid deck containers to hold wood next to the house. Can you tell I am somewhat obsessed with my stove?

Landemann firewood cart. Got tired of using the wheelbarrow in the winter.

Our 11 year old Wheaten Terrier likes it cool--his bed is next to the slider to the deck. Never goes near the stove. I'd consider a rescue pup, but he's strictly a one-dog dog; loves people, hates other dogs. Maybe next time. It's amazing what some people will do to animals.

I got a 25lb dry chemical extinguisher, slip-on knee-high muck boots (great for days like this when going out to the woodpile requires walking through a swampy yard), a chimney brush with 4' fiberglass rods, a new Carhartt chore coat, and finally, the gift I'm having the most fun with:

These are Zetex foundry gloves-the outer lining is woven Zetex fabric with a double layer on the fingers and palm. The inside is lined with insulation-they're rated for 1500 degrees! They're just dexterous enough that I can hold and use the poker, but I can touch flaming logs just long enough to reposition them before I feel the heat inside the glove. The fact that they go all the way to the elbow is nice too.

Some very cool gift items; I love the double barrel lighter, lol.

I got a precision fence for my bandsaw. It will be used to cut hundreds of strips of northern white cedar to make cedar strip canoes with. Guess what will happen to all the scrap cedar?

I also got myself an early Christmas present - an IR thermometer. It has been very helpful in figuring out the nuances of running the new stove.

I really like those foundry gloves lot. My welding gloves don't quite cut it when mousing around inside the firebox. Maybe for my birthday in early March.

And a special place for those that take care of them. I was seeing a lot of abandoned pets in 06-07, brougth a few to the shelters, thank god it hasnt been that bad last couple of years.
Nice job with the pup, hes gonna be a good looking dog and your best friend for years.

glad you finally explained about the pup in later posts to your thread I at first thought his hair burned off from the heat of your stove. P.S. may all animal abusers be subject to having their privates placed into the secondary burns of a good oak fire.

I got 3 Oregon 91VX semi- chisel chains..................

A box of SuperCedar fire starters!

Well it's interesting. My mother in law decided to get us stuff for the new insert. My wife wanted new fireplace tools, since she didn't like the old ones. MIL decided she liked the short handled ones so got us those. So I got a poker I can't use without putting my arm in the flame. Then there's the antique coal hod and coal scoop. I didn't know what to say, since she helped us stack the wood. And she did get us a nice antique brass wood holder for kindling. Oh, yeah - and a 5 ton electric HomeLite splitter. I've always forbidden her to get us things for the house without approval. This year she got away. Oh, well. The short tools will be exchanged and the coal hod might make a nice magazine rack in the guest bathroom.

Me too except I never made it over to the US side to pick it up. I haven't really needed them since the fire's been going 24/7 for some time.

LOL, My first tool set was a shortie, lost a lot of hair on my forearms before I went out and found a longer set.

I'm also thinking about having the small ironworking shop that's a mile from my house make me a set of stove tools optimized for the Oslo's dimensions and for use from the side door. Designing them will be an interesting little project for the holidays.
