I have a brand new XXV that just started making a horrible vibrating metal noise whenever the feed motor is on. We can hear it 2 rooms away, and it is driving us crazy.

I've searched for loose metal all over but haven't found the source, it sounds like the motor itself is vibrating in there. It's bad even when running on test mode. Cleaning didn't help, but then the stove has only burned 10 bags of pellets. The first 5 bags or so everything was fine.

Anyone have ideas? I'm thinking I might check the auger motor to make sure it isn't loose, and if that doesn't help maybe take the motor off and run it outside the stove and see if it really is noisy or if its just causing a vibration somewhere.

Thanks for any pointers...

Well, I was just about to suggest checking to make sure that the auger motor is secure, but you already thought of that.

Did this just start suddenly, or start low and get progressively louder?

Thanks for the reply. It started gradually, I wasn't certain for a while it wasn't just me being anal. But now it's gotten so bad my wife complains from across the house. It isn't getting any worse now but it is already to the point where it isn't tolerable so I have to do something.

I considered calling dealer but he isn't a tech person and this was a self installed stove so I was reluctant to get them involved unless there was a clear warranty issue. I DID finally managed to remove this awful noise. The auger motor WAS the culprit. The motor was fine however, but it does torque a bit in its mount and I managed to brace it underneath with a thick metal shim under the right side of motor (as you face the front of stove, so really left side of motor as you face back of stove). That reduced what was an intolerable buzzing heard 2 rooms away to a tolerable hum that everyone can live with. Hopefully it will last.

a noise from the stove IS a clear warrantee-able issue...doesnt matter if its a self-install or not.
