Hi guys/Girls

Firstly what a great website. I stumbled accross it whilst doing research via google for my multi-fuel stove

I am from the Uk, and I am amazed at the snow some of you guys get, we had some snow on the 23rd Dec, only 2-3 inches and the whole town came to a standstill, virtually, all you could hear were sirens going off, police, ambulance etc. Journeys that take 10 minutes were taking 2 - 2 1/2 hours!

I have been regularly reading posts and learning lots.

I took the plunge and had a multi-fuel stove fitted into my kitchen, so far I am finding it easier to burn coal rather than wood, but I guess with practice it will be fine.

So here's to a fabulous 2010!

Joanne

Greetings Joanne and welcome. That sounds similar to what happens when it snows out here. A few inches and folks are paralyzed. But in areas used to the snow, they have the streets cleared in hours and are back in business.

What stove did you put in the kitchen? Can we talk you into posting a picture of it?

Welcome to the forums from across the pond and then some, Joanne. Rick

Welcome Joanne. Some of these characters don't even bother to measure snow until they can't find their car!

Coal has been heating homes for lots of years. Do what works for you. Again, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Hope there are some pics attached to this?

1/ First fire in the new stove.

2/ on my way home in the snow the other day.

we are on a weather warning at the moment, due to start snowing again at 1am here in Wales.

Jo

Whoops forgot to say it is a Villager Bayswater

Thanks for the pics. I think I can safely say that's the first shot of a Villager Bayswater posted here.

Hi Joanne, welcome to the hearth.
Normal ten minute trips take eleven when the snow hits around here. ;-P People DO forget how to drive EVERY winter though, and you can find those folks in the ditches and trees lining the highway. Usually with a police car nearby and a towtruck attached.
Very cool looking stove you've got there.

Greetings & welcome, Joanne !!

Always glad to see another skirt around here ;-)

We need all the help that we can get !!

Hi, Joanne - great to hear from another "girl" burner -- we will always be girls, no matter how old we get. I love to hear from all the people from far off places. I am in north central Indiana between Indianapolis and Chicago -- we got about 5 inches of snow Sunday. It looks beautiful - supposed to get more tomorrow - look forward to reading more from you - and your burning experiences. Have a blessed new year!

I'm learning to burn a new EPA stove after 30 years experience with various simple "smoke dragons"--having to re-train myself to look at a stove top thermometer. What a nuisance.

Always good to see another filly in the paddock. Do you burn coal, Jo? The husband tells me stories about the coal stove in his grandparents' home in Wales and how "mamgu" taught them to rekindle the fire in the morning. And how dirty his grandfather used to be after a day in the mines (he can't remember how to spell grandfather in Welsh).

Hi

Hi Bobbin, I have been burning mostly coal lately, I have wood but I left it a bit late to start storing drying etc.

I have my coal from my neighbour, he used to work at the mines, above ground, so he gets his coal free, so I am able to still have free heat :). Where in Wales did your husbands parents live?

This is a fab forum, I get lost in it for hours :)

Happy 2010 to all!!!
Jo
