.... at least until we get our Generac generator! :)

Sorry to hear about the power and the cold house. What model Generac are you going to get? Whole house? Portable?

I want to get a whole house generator... something in the 18+kw range. I want something that can run all the essentials; oil furnace, pellet stove, well pump, pressure tank, water softener, fridge, freezers, couple lights, tv(?lol?) Something that would allow us to run a few devices for days or many devices for hours. I like the generacs because of the auto transfer switch.

Of course, this is a future purchase... I don't see it happening in the next year BUT I can shop around and <drool> :)

9°F with a windchill of -14°F at my house.

Yeah baby. St Croix munching on some Cleanfires @ #3 out of 5.
68°F in furthest rm from stove, 76°F in living/kitchen/dining rms.

I have the 12kw unit. I can run everything in the house except the electric cookstove.....furnace, pellet stove, frig, all the lights except a few in the workshop, garage lights & door openers, outside flood lights, etc. In the summer, i can run all that stuff (not the furnace or stove, obviously), plus I can run a 25K A/C unit and 2 window units. I run mine off a 100 gal propane tank that will give me about 4 days on 3/4 load.

Cold, clear, crisp 26'F, wind chill 19'F

Napoleon NPS40 on feed 4, damper 3, the deep fry/candy thermometer we have stuck in the far left heat exchanger says the stove is putting out 255'F.

1950's brick bungalow, mid-grade thermal windows, R19 in the attic (yeah, we know, it's on the renovation list) crawlspace, hardwoods and tile (no carpet.) 1248 sq.ft. single story, circular floor plan. Stove is in the far corner of the house in the study. We don't have a thermometer in the study, sorry, but the HVAC thermostat says that the house temperature is holding at 65'F.

Burning O'Malleys this season.

We expect 7F overnight. On low burn, dancing, feed 6 every 30, 768 sq ft shop rising from 39F about 4-6 degrees every hour.
(I'm not out there) curious to see what morning brings.

Outside: Howling wind... +6F here/ -10 Wind Chill...
Inside: Warm...+75 down in the family room (NO wind chill!)..
Burning Dinosaurs (HHO so the pipes don't splode & LP insert)
& Pellets (Cleanfire) in the kitchen...
Upstairs a tad cooler (58) cuz we keep the BR door shut & use the flannel
sheets, coupla down comforters & snuggle heat ;-)

12 here this morning with a 0 wind chill.
Stove is doing great. Set on AUTO with the unit actually running on M-ML. I hate spending the money to heat the house, but it is actually nice to see the stove running on something other than low.

3F this morning minus 0 with windchill stove plugging away on level 3 0f 5 downstairs70F upstairs63F not bad considering how cold it is.

7 degrees in Southern Maine this morning. Harman XXV is set to room temp of about 70 degrees, fan is on med-high, however the great room where the stove is installed is a toasty 74 degrees and bedrooms at the other end of the hall (ranch style house) are at 68 degrees. Burning NEWP, going through a little over a bag a day in this cold weather.

-2F here in northern Vermont with wind chills around -20 to -25 and the PB105 is keeping the house nice and warm! The high yesterday was 6!

5 degrees, wind blowing, and no power from 4pm to 7am.....no generator......brrrr. I harvested a 670 cca cheap walmart non deep cycle out of my tractor that hasn't run in months. The Mt. Vernon AE ran with this from 6:30pm until 10:30pm until the battery was spent. In the meantime I ran to walmart and bought the biggest best battery they had for $80.....still non deep cycle 850cca. At 10:30pm I swapped the batteries over and the stove ran until the ash dump, which I didn't notice until 4:30am. I did a manual relight with hand sanitizer and a torch and the stove cranked back up. All in all things worked well except for not having a battery already in and ready to go. The house stayed around 68 degrees and we were comfortable, except my daughter who didn't understand why her nightlight didn't work. This morning I asked my wife whether she thought we should get a generator, she said no because she thought we survived okay....darn :-(

Well fortunately no power outages here in my neck of the woods on the east coast of Canada last night but stove has been purring like a kitten all night with a feed rate of 2 and the blower set on 5.....1200 sq.ft staying a comfy 70F.....oh and the outside temps at 9:00 am Atlantic Time is a toasty 1F with a wind chill of -22F or -16 Celcius with a wind chill of -30C.....can't wait to see that wind die down some later in the day.....

Not sure of the temp last night/this morning in PA, however we'll just say it's friggin' cold!!!

Stove isn't keeping up this year. Thermostate set at 75, main room the stove is in, is only at 70 degrees!!! Stove is clean and all that, I think it's the Lignetics Pellets I'm burning this year... Last year I only ran my oil furnace while I was letting the stove cool to clean... This year I'm running it every night from 8-11 p.m. to heat the upstairs. Our upstairs was down to 60 last night!!!

I shut the stove down for a cleaning yesterday and as I suspected the ash pan was over full. I usually just take it outside and dump it but yesterday with the wind blowing that would not have been smart. So up to the local hardware store for a metal ash bucket. In the stove section there was a nice black one for $28, I decided to check the garbage cans and found an identical silver one for $16. I think that I can give it a paint job sometime and still save $$.

Temps bottomed out around 3 °F this morning, not sure what the wind chill was, but it was howling. My house (1800 sq.ft. built around 1930) was a toasty 72 °F when I woke up. This is our first year with the pellet stove, and my house has never been warmer. Last night was no exception!

Got home from work last night and house was at 60 degrees, because that is what the thermostat for the furnace is set at. Cranked the stove from 3 all the way to max and by the next morning it was finally up to 66 degrees. Temp was 2 degrees outside with a windchill more like 20 below. The poor stove was givin it all she had.

We pretty much froze are cans off here yesterday. High winds knocked down trees and power lines. Found out I still don't like using the woodstove anymore. Power finally came back on at 4:00Am this morning and we are getting back to WARM again. I really need to get a generator!

Nice little unit, ain't it? And not bad looking either....

37 degrees here in Cincinnati. Both pellet stoves have been shut down due to the warmer weather.

Cold and windy, stove starts and stops as usual, running on medium setting.

Hi all,

Stove on pellet feed 2 of 9 settings and blower on 4 of 9 settings and keeping the 1500 sq ft cape at 67.1 right now. May have to crank it up another notch before bed. How are you doing? Thanks

Cold outside. Warm inside. Life is good.

Wow, you can run all that on a 12k! Hmm, that will drop the price a bit! ;)

Tell her you want to be prepared for an ice storm like Maine had back in the late 90's.

My wife says she has PTSD from that ice storm. Our kids were home on military leave with their families. We were 12 people and 6 dogs! We live in a rural setting, well water etc. A little over a week before the lights came on. Kept the house 55-60 with a Kerosene heater. CO2 detectors and smoke alarms in place. Survived it, but wouln't want to do it again. A generator would sure be nice.
Was 6 degrees here last PM, Our Napoleon kept us toasty warm. Did hear the furnace come on for about 20 min. around 5 AM. Trying to get use to allowing the temp to go to 70 before getting furnace assist. Last year we were 74-76. Seems the lower temp is reasonable and would save on even more oil. My kids keep their homes about 65-68 without complaint. My wife is having an adjustment but is "willing".
Now the weatherman is forecasting a foot++ of snow starting tomorrow PM and running through the weekend. Have bottled water, batteries, kerosene heater, radio and flashlight ready. Oh Happy New Year!
